All of our 2nds are from non p li payoff teams (Montreal, Pit, Columbus). So if we give up a 2md to get a 1st in the Savard deal, it will be trading Savard to move up from like 45th to 32nd, or 40th to 26th.

And I would still do it though!
That's a good point. We could move up that way. That would give us 3 first round picks and a better possibility to move up in the first round.

Savard is a RD, which is more sought after. He also actually won a Cup unlike Chiarot.

I mean Sean Walker was traded for a 1st. Joel Edmundson of all players for a 3rd and 5th. Andrew Peeke for Zboril and a 3rd. Some team will be desperate for Savard.
Savard is stuggling this year versus the last two but he remains a much better player than Andrew Peeke imo.

How did we get Columbus' 2nd?

Edit: never mind., I hadn't recorded the 2026 2nd in the Laine trade.

Both Sean and Joel are under 30..... Savard is 34 years old. Honestly, I will be very happy if Kent can trade him for a first. At his age, we have better chance of getting a second round pick.

A 2nd or a 1st for him and another pick im here for

Calgary has finally fallen out of a playoff spot. They're 9th. The 8 teams currently in should be the teams that stay in.

They hold pick 16, as the best non-playoff team.

The Flames lost 6-2 to the Dallas Stars. If their goaltending doesn't hold up, they're toast. They don't have enough scoring to compensate. They're currently 15th overall.

They have 6 games left before Christmas. They can go .500 over those games.

There's more than enough time for them to tank, though. With Pittsburgh & Columbus playing better, Calgary is only 4 pts up on 9th place CBJ. 3 points up on 10th place Pens.

At some point they're going to realize they're not making the playoffs and bail.

This was a foregone conclusion long ago.
It's got Florida in the equation we were always going to get the least appealing selection. :skeptic:

The teams now in front of them are likely to hold serve. I'd bet on Colorado turning their DIFF around before Calgary.

I'm starting to hate Florida more than Toronto/Boston! Come on Calgary finish 11th!

I was never worried about them making the playoffs. Always worried about their pick falling below 11th overall.

Dig deep Flames, combine the wisdom of HuGo and Bergevin: stay in the mix and anything can happen.

Calgary now beating Preds 4-3, and out shooting them 24-13. 3rd just started.

If Flames win & Oilers lose (they're home to TBL), Calgary jumps back into WC2.
