What team is looking to give up a really good C for the 15th or worse pick in a draft that is said to be top 10 heavy and then after that to drop off?
how many teams give up top C at TDL for 32nd OA pick that never make the NHL??

Yes, at the TDL. But the TDL has long passed. And I don't see HuGo waiting until the next TDL to get a C. We need one this offseason.

That is why I could see HuGo getting a vet stop gap this summer, and then trying to get one at the TDL - as a rental we re-sign - or when one becomes available at a good price.

Big game tonight for our Calgary pick this year.

We need Minnesota to clinch, and then for the Flames to not win the lottery and we're good.

The higher the pick is alongside our own the better the trade value it'll have if we're looking to acquire a top-4 D or 2C.

so is a 32nd pick more valuable than a 16th? Teams will be retooling-rebuilding and players with one year left on contracts will be movable. There is no difference at TDL or draft except for when it happens. At mid-1st round pick is valuable.

I can think of many great centers that have been traded as rentals at the TDL for a mid to late 1st. I can't think of any at the draft. Can you?

But yes, it always seems like there is no one available. But I think Hughes may be able to find someone.

This year alone we have two 1sts, two 2nds, three 3rds & two fourths. That + our prospect pool is a ton of ammunition to make something happen. We also have too many forwards as is.

Really tough to predict how this all goes down. I don't see them using all those picks and we desperately need a 2C. It's a perfect storm to make some trades......but at same time, of all the "realistic" names out there, there is nobody on the market that I'm interested in. Sam Bennett would be fun but at what cost? Would Habs pay up the ass for him just because they absolutely need upgrade asap and can't afford to wait an extra 1-2 years?

It would cost alot but if Hugo has to force it this summer, then Tage Thompson might be the only guy I'd be crazy about adding. Otherwise Id much prefer the stopgap option (Duchene) & make a trade later on when there are better options.

There is also demidov....he is my wildcard for C. Even tho he doesn't play it, I think he absolutely could. I think he could dominate in that position with him driving the play at both ends of the ice. The more responsibility the better for him

So far, this isn't our night. Flames up 1-0 after 1.

Edmonton just needs a tie to clinch. They're 2-2 late in 2nd against San Jose. Oilers out shooting them 27-12. A goalie named Romanov is in net.

Calgary leading 3-0 after 2. They're going to win.

That'll move them to 3 points back of both St. Louis & Minnesota. Both Blues & Wild have 2 games left. Calgary 3 games.

Tomorrow:

10 PM: Wild @ Canucks
10 PM: Blues @ Kraken

Neither can clinch with a win, but both need to win to get closer to it. Calgary will have 2 games in hand. Their next game is Sunday when they host San Jose.

All this talk of trading the 1st rounders makes me laugh. Just because 2 players have elevated the team this season and are further along in the rebuild than we thought doesn't mean to go crazy.
How is the Dach experiment working out?

Excluding Demidov, i only see Hage making it to the NHL from our forward prospects. Xhekaj still somewhat of a long shot despite his impressive progression. Roy is looking less likely by the day.

So we just need to keep drafting. You will not get the player you want for those picks.

Flames just won't die.

So, both the Wild and Blues are losing. If they both lose tonight, Calgary is in full control of their destiny to make the playoffs. Wow.

Wild win, now 5 points ahead of the Flames and the Blues lost in OT and are 4 points up. Flames do have 2 games in hand on both teams with 3 games remaining

Zuccarello's been amazing for the Wild, even at his older age. he's had great offensive years from age 32 to 37. Rare in today's game.

Games remaining for each team
Blues vs Utah

Wild vs Ducks

Flames vs Sharks, Golden Knights @ Kings

If the Flames can win out, including beating the kings and the knights, and getting to 96 points, they really will have earned their playoff spot. Unlike the 8th seed in the East, lol.

Their 1st would probably go from 16th overall to 20th overall if they make it, because they would probably leap frog us, New Jersey, and Ottawa if they won out.

Knights will be resting players as they clinched the Pacific and good chance the Kings will be resting players too.

the flames have to hope for wild to lose to anaheim which they arent. even wild getting 1 point tuesday, they are in because they hold advantage over flames. St louis winning in regulation tuesday means they are in

Absolutely no guarantee the Wild beat Anaheim.

The Ducks just beat the Flames, and the Oilers, 3 and 5 days ago.

But yes, at least the Wild and the Blues still ja e their destinies in hand. If the wild win and the blues win in regulation, they're both in. But the Blues are playing Utah who are playing well...and the Blues just lost to Seattle...

6 of tonight's 11 games went to the shootout...
