Yeah, it’s over. We are getting FLA pick. CGY is in free fall.

Dreams of picking 11-16 are over.
It isn't like the teams behind them are world beaters they are in the bottom half of the league for a reason. They are still 5 points on seventh spot and with just over 20 games left that isn't easy to make up the difference. Beating Philadelphia on this road trip will make it difficult for them to catch them.

It's a really tough month for Calgary. They play @ Carolina tomorrow.

Blues host the Kings tonight, while Utah hosts New Jersey. Only Utah can pass Calgary with a win. St. Louis can tie, but Calgary will stay ahead due to game differential. Calgary will hold 2 games in hand on both teams.

Due to that Calgary has a little bit of leeway, but things are definitely tightening up in the West, as St. Louis, Utah & Anaheim are all playing well.

Calgary holds down #16 draft position. If Ottawa wins tonight (playing San Jose) & Utah, Flames will fall to 14th OA.

small question , would the pick determination be before or after the lottery ?
So could they be 16th , win the lottery this pick becomes 6th and we don’t get it right ?

Yes that's right.

Alternatively, Calgary finishes 10th last and we don't have that pick... but then someone jumps them in the lottery and they drop to 11th and then we do get the pick. Imagine that scenario! Lol

Not sure why people are worried. This is perfect. The Flames will continue to go up and down, barely making or missing the playoffs. Near guaranteed top 11-16 pick. :)
Near guarantee?

The Flames are 2 points out of 10th overall, and 3 points out of 8th overall, with 22 games left. And their quality of opposition is said to be harder during this last quarter of the season than it was for the first three quarters (I haven't done the analysis).

At this points I'm rooting for the Fkames to win. Even if they make the playoffs, they highly likely lose in the first round. Then the pick is likely 17th. That's much better than getting Florida's pick.

Brother , last time I said that was sayi bff the Florida pick will surely be 11-16 and they won’t make the playoffs …. Then pitsburg loses to the bloody hawks and the rest is history !!!! Just wish you will be better then me in your predictions

Yippee, a big point for Calgary!! They're in WC2.

Blues are losing to the Stars, 4-3 after 2. Plus, Flames have 2 games in hand on them.

Calgary also still has a game in hand on Utah.

They also have more RWs then Vancouver, St. Louis & Utah, which means those 3 teams actually need more points to pass them.

They're in good position still, especially with Vancouver tanking since the Miller trade (he was helping them win games not Pettersson).

Not to mention that Hughes is still injured for the Canucks. There is so much parity in the league that even though Flames are mere points away from bottom 10, there is still a good bit of teams between them. The number of teams between positions is far more representative than the number of points between positions.

Flames offense has dried up lately however. 1 goal in 3 games.

Flames never had much offense to begin with. They're tied with Anaheim for the worst offense in NHL.

The only reason they're not in bottom 10 is because they're getting top 10 goaltending, and they have an OK PP. Everything else pretty much sucks.

don’t worry about Flames losses guys, I’m still cheering for them to lose they have a much easier path to the playoffs than top-10
I like your optimism, but I feel Utah, St. Louos, and even Anaheim are coming on, even if Vancouber are sinking.

Honestly, i'm shocked every time they manage to score a goal.

I'm not sure about that.
If they don't start to win games regularly, all those teams that are just 2 or 3 points behind are gonna jump over them, however many there are.
