He wouldn’t waive there. Only Dallas or FloridaHow could the leafs not match or beat this offer lol
That’s the only flex you need as the current champions. Stay madIt's so sad that every thread, every post you go to the weakest flex possible...."we won a cup...we won a cup". Congrats. What was your contribution? Just a few years ago and Florida was the joke of the league. Enjoy your window...it never lasts very long...and soon you'll be the one at the end of some other idiot's posts about 'not having won since dinosaurs walked around'. Really, so lame.
Did you even read the comment exchange? It was a Habs fan who did a very poor attempt at flaming that Panthers fan saying his team has been better the last 30 years when all he has is a finals loss compared to Florida who has a cup WIN and 2 more finals appearances. It's so sad that every thread, every post you go to the weakest flex possible...."we won a cup...we won a cup". You’re not wrong, but the guy you posted to didn’t started all that nonsense. And we’ve heard shit for decades, so yeah, there’s some pent up frustration behind some of the championship posts. It's so sad that every thread, every post you go to the weakest flex possible...."we won a cup...we won a cup". I'm surprised FLA went this route. Assuming Tkachuk is back for the playoffs, their only real need was another defenseman. Their usual MO is to find cheap reclamation guys they can turn around, not high-ticket, big-risk deals. FLA's system does insulate defensemen and at a $7M cap hit in a rising cap, I think Jones has a chance to be worth it for the Panthers. This does basically signal they'll let Ekblad go though.
Yes, which is why I said the rising cap is an important consideration. If the cap wasn't going up astronomically, Zito wouldn't have done this. He's now allowed more play.
Do you mean this Finnish guy who was drafted in 2015?Rantanen
"a few years ago" the Panthers won the Presidents trophy. Beat out the Caps in the first round , then lost to Cup Champ Bolts. It's so sad that every thread, every post you go to the weakest flex possible...."we won a cup...we won a cup". Congrats. I don’t think I’m overthinking it as much as you say. I think slotting players into spots they aren’t ready for is bad for their development. Jones can play a hard 25 minutes. He’s not the best, but he’s been doing it for years. You made a long winded post how they should have kept Seth Jones and trading him was bad yet you want to say someone else is overthinking things? LOL
That's not a necessity... and generally not a good thing when a player who isn't thriving is playing 25 minutes. So you're saying who is going to do this thing nobody should be done and this guy did poorlyI don’t think I’m overthinking it as much as you say. I think slotting players into spots they aren’t ready for is bad for their development. Jones can play a hard 25 minutes. He’s not the best, but he’s been doing it for years.
That’s been my main argument against trading him. The value you get back isn’t going to compensate for his absence. Who’s ready to take over that role for the Hawks?
The Penguins had already fallen off a cliff. It was obvious to many.AKA the Erik Karlsson special, except the Panthers aren't going to fall off a cliff like the Penguins did.
This will be the narrative but he has been a very good blackhawk. Hes probably the 2nd or 3rd best player on the team. Hes good. A lot of hawks fans got blinded by the contract and made him a whipping boy.Fully anticipating a career revival from Jones now. Not being “the guy”, cap hit of 7.125 instead of 9.5, being asked mostly to be an offensive catalyst now on a strong offensive team. Something to play for. I’m guessing he looks revived.
They are going to be fighting to hit the cap floor for the next 3 seasons. The retention doesnt matter as much to Chicago at the moment.Retaining for more than 5 seasons is tough. I really don't know if it'd make the return worth it. It's a lot in return for Seth Jones (who should basically have like negative value). I don't even know if Seth Jones at 7M is a good contract. Maybe an okay contract.
To me this is not a win for Florida. They gave up a lot, and got a 2/3D (right now) for 5+ years. What will he be towards the end of that deal? Will Bob really be a starting goaltender in three years? You lost your likely future starting goaltender. And a first round pick also isn't nothing.
Chicago only wins if Knight works out or the first turns into a good NHL'er. That's not worth it otherwise to be basically paying 2M in dead cap for more than 5 years without that. Was moving Jones without retaining not possible? Because to me my #1 goal would be moving the whole cap hit. A future here or there wouldn't be my aim. I know 2M isn't the end of the world, but the idea that the Hawks definitely won't be spending to the cap in like 4 years because they aren't now is hard to believe. If their rebuild goes as they want, they will be bringing in some big contracts in the upcoming years and also giving out some big ones to players already on their team.
The boomerang, right? or the Bow, maybe? You guys have 1 cup since they invented curved sticks
For starters…they don‘t have a Spencer Knight…and they have higher taxes. How could the leafs not match or beat this offer lol
So let’s say they sign McDavid or even someone on the lower end like Rantanen or Eichel and Bedard gets an early extension, which I would guess are aims for Hawks fans, you don’t think that’s going to eat up 25M?This will be the narrative but he has been a very good blackhawk. Hes probably the 2nd or 3rd best player on the team. Hes good. A lot of hawks fans got blinded by the contract and made him a whipping boy.

Blame nothing more than the Leafs own ineptitude. This is what happens when you prioritize overpaying loser players. However, put me in the bucket of "salty Leafs fan" who is frustrated to see the strong get stronger, without having to give up all that much.
