Vlad stops 42 shots
Kadri has multiple points
Huberdeau breaks out with 5 point night
Insert random flames player playing his first game tonight and he pots one
Calgary powerplay is 0 for 22 but will score 5 powerplay goals tonight

Did I address everything that can go against us as usual

Sounds just about right

We were actually 7-4-2 last year. And there's a big difference...

2023-2024: 6-5-2, 49.04 xGF% (20th)
2022-2023: 7-4-2, 55.00 xGF% (6th)
2021-2022: 7-5-1, 55.08 xGF% (3rd)

One of these things is not like the others.

In past years, it was things like goalie injuries/struggles, unsustainable conversion struggles, and some bad breaks dragging our early record down.
This year, we're just straight up playing like garbage.
Translation: previous years we were allowed to use excuses for not winning, but this not this year. :sarcasm:

Glad to hear there's attention going toward our defensive coverage, it's been horrible.
The offense will come, they have the talent for that so i'm not worried there.
Overall effort and defensive play are my concerns
Goaltending still is too. Really like Woll but don't completely trust him yet but I think he's a good one or I at least hope so.

Sammy needs to get his shit together.

How ironic, since you're the one that has tried to apply excuses.
But no. We look at the reasons for losing, and how likely that is to continue every year.
The early results are just much worse this year, despite your misleading attempt to equate them.

Klingberg being out is addition by subtraction. Should be tighter defensively tonight.
D wise he's been an adventure. Many people... non leaf fans and Leaf fans have warned us.

I was hoping for okay D with a great powerplay asset.

His d play hasn't been worth the offense at all.

I hope he figures it out but it's been bad so far.

Benoit for me has been a complete surprise. I don’t put much stock into preseason, apart from prospects and guys trying to make the team, but man Benoit was literally the worst D man. Must have been the late camp start, because he bears no resemblance to the gong show in camp, he was so bad I wrote him off completely. He’s been poised, simple and efficient, physical and competent, a nice depth add so far.

30 point guy last year. Pacing for the same this year.

39 year old Gio put up 24 points with no PP points last year for league minimum, 30 points with soft sheltered usage + PP time isn’t offense it’s just being on the ice while the forwards do their thing and feed you secondary transition/point to point pass assists.

Edit: even this year Gio has put more pucks on net and is tied for shot attempts and unblocked shot attempts compared to a guy getting almost exclusively offensive zone starts

Lagesson is the pleasant surprise for me personally. He actually has some good instincts with the puck as well, there might be something there.

Agreed, he’s been so really solid. With him though I had no preconceptions. Lucky these depth guys are stepping up, D depth was a big problem, at least now we have some adequate help.

Honestly we’re losing this one and winning Saturday. Wolf might shut us out for the first time in 2 seasons.

Fire Keefe.

The Oilers came in 2 weeks early and “practiced defence”. Means f all if your defensive systems are non existent or run by a fool.
What makes you say that? We’ve been pretty good defensively the last few seasons. What would make our defensive systems disappear?

And the Flames will score a couple of shorthanded goals while two men down.
