Good win. Hope this is a turnaround. Btw, WTF AV?? 5 on 3 without Zucc on the ice.....

IIRC McGratton is the guy that had the piece about respect / fighting in the league and then he compliments The guy he fought tonight because he's a rookie in the league. That kind of class is sorely missed.

Henrik is the key to the Rangers. I hope he is just going through a slump!

I must say... I think Hank is this years 2012-13 brad Richards ..

Bad news if I'm right. I feel its a slump.but god knowshow long he will take with this ... He has ZERO confidence in the net... Richards is actually the complete opposite end of that spectrum. Shootout really showed how richards worked through his issues last year, and is also showing that hank is dealing with the same weakness

I didn't see the game but it sounds like mcilrath kept the ice policed for the time he was out there. If that's the case, that will encourage others to play bigger I think. That's a huge key. I wouldn't send him down. Unless I'm misunderstanding his effect.

Unfortunately, despite the win, the team still doesn't know jack **** about constant offense. Honestly, when was the last time we had scored a creative hockey goal that wasn't put in by rick nash? Miller against FLA? When we score, it seems like it's always a deflection, a snipe from richards/nash or a dangle by nash. Anything in between is 1 in a million shots it seems.

Stepan still looks noticeably injured, his shot is horrific compared to a year ago. (callahan too)

No doubt. Every defensemen besides MacDonough has been up and down.

All of the the d have been up and down including Mac . He makes some questionable plays .
What is wrong with hank is that our team isn't leading the league in blocked shots !!

The Rangers won. 1-3-1. 3 points on their home stand. 4 more games. Pitt. Islanders. Minnesota. Toronto. The last three are played in 4 nights. Calgary played the day before. Traveled to NY in the snow. It took everything the Rangers had to beat them.

I hate to sound like a negative nancy, but yeah, this, lol. Was at the game. Pretty unimpressive performance overall. Both teams are bad. One team was slightly worse than the other tonight.

Great to see a win at the Garden, but it was honestly kind of hard to watch.

5 minutes of ice time and his teammates think he's the star of the game because WTF he hung in against Brian McGrattan. Just goes to show that players appreciate guys who can defend themselves and their teammates.

I really liked this, it shows great camraderie in the locker room and immediately makes him feel like part of the group. Its just a hat but the symbolism hopefully fires him up.

Agree. This recent PP slump is pretty much 100 % correlated with not allowing Zuke out there. Must be Our most efficient PP guy by far? Don't get it.

The Rangers should have blown the Flames out in the first period. Optional skate on Friday. Practice on Saturday. No skate on Sunday morning. They came out flat with no emotion.

The Rangers are playing Pitt on Wednesday. They are missing their top 4 D because of injury. Letang might play. They don't know yet. Neal is serving the fifth and last game of his suspension on Wednesday. Malkin got hurt in the last game. He might not play on Wednesday. The Rangers can't play another close game against a team missing their best players.

The happy talk on MSG is too much.

Also that was probably the least noticeable game from Boyle that I can remember.

Forgot he was playing.

He was partly responsible for the first 2 goals against and was credited with an assist. Pretty noticeable for a do nothing guy like BB.

Good 2 pts., even though Hank had an off night, especially in the shootout

I noticed that. Classy stuff. George Laraque did something similar when he fought a rookie.

Definitely not a great performance. At least you got to see a shootout.

I actually think the Rangers will come out HARD against the Pens on Wednesday. Its a psychological thing to come out with that extra fire when you know you're playing a rival, and one with as much offensive firepower as they have.

Looking forward to it. :yo:

The Flames are not a good team. Columbus, Nashville and New Jersey are kind of mediocre. The only decent team we've faced on this home stand was the Caps. The Rangers let the Devils take the game away from them--New Jersey got some real help in that from the War room in Toronto. Allowing Janssen's goal was just disgraceful. Even so they still were leading--but they collapsed after that. Against the Caps down 3-0 after the 1st. Caps with 3 goals on 7 shots in the period. Fall behind to Nashville 2-0 after the first giving up only 6 shots. Fall behind 3-0 after 11 minutes to Columbus. Some of these shots were glorious opportunities but the goaltending has not been there and the team has not shown anywhere near enough push back when it falls behind early. Hate to say it but Henrik's often played like **** this year and this team has way too many passengers on it.

Interesting stat--Chris Kreider is a +9. All of our other players are - players except for Hagelin who is a 0.

Anyway to McIlrath. I don't know if he's going to stick around long but the Rangers definitely could use some of the elements of his game. You have a guy who can pound on people it makes your players more comfortable playing an all out game. They don't always have to worry that the other team's tough guy is going to come looking for them every time they finish a check hard. McIlrath gives us some quid pro quo. He should also develop into a fairly reliable physical stay at home defenseman. Being a right sider is another bonus.

As an aside JT Miller plays a hard game. I don't think he's far away either. I kind of envision a bigger, stronger maybe even grittier version of Callahan.

I was definitely hard to watch..

.. but that being said, almost all games that break a losing streak are. I'm not saying the Rangers will be able to build some confidence and momentum from this, but when a team is playing badly, they're playing badly. It doesn't change overnight.

I think last night kind of sums up this season for me. I can't say the effort level changed a whole lot, just some lucky bounces (like Kreider's rebound goal) that broke our way instead of against us. It seems to me like we've been on the wrong end more times than not so it's nice to have a change of fortune once and a while.

Seeing McIlrath fight was nice, but the narrative, I think is overblown. He got beaten pretty badly and is only a spark because of the victory. If the game goes the other way, it's just a kid getting his licks (literally) at the pro level.

Good 2 pts., even though Hank had an off night, especially in the shootout

How did Lundqvist have an off night? He had no chance on the first two goals and the 3rd was a weird dribble that rode up Brassard's stick and over Lundqvist's pad. He also made big stops on several breakaways and won in the shootout.

While it wasn't a pretty game I think there's something to take away from the fact that they didn't give up after going down and came back to tie it twice and give themselves the chance to get 2 points.

And now that I said that, I'll also say that they looked like they pretty much DID give up after the Flames scored first, as the defense fell apart and all the players just looked like they felt "oh **** we're going to lose again" and stopped trying. Stepan's goal probably saved that game and gave them some energy back and the D steadied itself for the 2nd and 3rd periods.

The upshot is hopefully they get some confidence from this game because they've sorely been lacking in that department and as soon as the other team scores, have basically been giving up. A come from behind win might help fix that

Also that first penalty on Kreider was ****ing ********
