OMG!

It has finally happened……

Florida and Vegas have so picked clean the rest of the league that they are now starting to consume each other…..

This was the ultimate end result of their harvesting policies……feast, feast on each others carcus…

And 30 other NHL teams and fan bases did rejoice…..

It feels like Florida built this powerhouse team and then went "oh yeah, we need a goalie".

Goaltending is a superposition. It's both incredibly important and seemingly unimportant.

Since Zito and Luongo came on board, almost simultaneously, Florida has had great success finding goalies to complement Bob. Lyon, Stolarz, Driedger(who was good for a couple years with the Panthers), even Tarasov was decent. If there's good team out in front of him, Tarasov finishes with a sub- 2.75 gaa and a .905 sv% last season. Let's give it some time, this one could work out too .

Decent backup.
Yeah, Schmidt played a lot of the season as the starter after the early-season injuries to Hill and Hart and actually did pretty well most of the time under difficult circumstances, i.e., usually a very tight game since Cassidy would turtle if the Knights were ahead by one, or simply tied, or sometimes even if the Knights were behind by a point or two, so Schmidt had to deal with a lot of play in the defensive zone without any points as a cushion. Solid acquisition for Florida.

Knights will probably roll with Linbom as their backup, and I presume that McCrimmon is accumulating picks to bundle with Hill to get some sucker GM to take him off our hands, noting that the half-life of picks in McCrimmon's hands are usually measured in minutes.

This guy has starter potential. Was the best VGK goalie this year. Still young but being written off by many. Jumped straight to the NHL by 22 and won a playoff series by 23. Panthers may have something really good here. Let's see who they pair him with. Hoping for Ingram

Against the Rags in 2023 he was awesome. That whole 2022-23 season, Schmid was the Devils best goalie.

Sucks he hasn't progressed much since the Devils sent him to Vegas. Hopefully he plays well with the Panthers. He's still only 26 years old and should be in his prime years. If he can play well as a backup and hold the job down all year than that will be great for him and Florida.

I only saw 5 or 6 of his starts this season, but he looked good in all but one of those games, and put on an absolute show in another. Not sure what FLA plans to do with him, but I think they were smart to bring in a guy who has plenty of upside given the uncertainty of their goalie situation. With the group that will be playing in front of him I am expecting him to be in at least one fight.

He gave up 3 pretty bad ones in G2. 2 wrist shots from the point and a short side rebound because he was looking pass. G3 the Viel goal late he needed a stop on.
Id have to go back and look, but ill trust your judgement. Regardless, few walked away from that series thinking Ingram kept the Oilers from advancing. Knob got outcoached, Edmonton has no defense and the stars were no shows. If anything, Dostal kept that from being a sweep

A third round pick seems a bit steep for this guy.
How? Considering that Cossa with 1 nhl game got a first, Schmid is 26yo, so basically just entering the prime for goalies age-wise. Also, his numbers are low key pretty damn good, just about 90% save percentage on NHL and AHL, which is normal for starting goalies nowadays.
