Confirmed Trade: [FLA/VGK] Akira Schmid for 2028 3rd round pick

Shame we had to let him go because of Hill's contract although even if we managed to move Hill I'd want someone better who could reliably take on a tandem role with Hart if need be and Schmid isn't that

Guess it'll be Tarasov/Schmid if Bob doesn't relent which feels pretty mediocre but FLA does have the forwards to win every game 6-5 so maybe it'll work lol

The gap between Vasi/Helle and the worst backup is smaller than it was in, say, the 1980s. And Bussi proved that you can find NHL goaltending in the AHL. In fact, spending big in goal (Hellebuyck, Saros, Shesterkin, Sorokin) prevents roster enhancements. There's a lot of good goalies, but like coaches, many teams are too scared to move off of familiar names.
This is true in general terms. But I think you're doing a disservice to how great Bobrovsky was in both of Florida's playoff runs. It's possible for a decent/mid goalie to step up and play like a Vezina winner, but you have much better odds with an actual Vezina winner.

Bob is also an extreme case of year to year inconsistency... one season he's f***ing terrible and the next he's the best in the league by a decent amount

So they sign skinner on Weds, run skinner/schmid, somehow bully their way into winning cup, Canadian fans collectively implode.
most Canadian fans won't give a f***... and most intelligent fans, know Skinner wasn't the issue in Edmonton.

Bobs been an up/down goalie in the regular season since hes been here
Was truly terrible last year but we had so many injuries too

In the playoffa he was an integral part of the cup wins, could we maybe win with a Bussi type in ‘25? Maybe, but we def dont get to the finals or past the bruins in ‘23 or beat the oilers in ‘24 without him
Bob straight up stole 3/4 wins that series

No doubt. Bob is my goat. I just dont think you need to cripple your cap to get excellent goaltening. Great goaltending can be had on a budget.

That rare instant lose/lose trade: no Hill trade is out there for VGK so they had to do this, and Florida is as of now running a Tarasov/Schmid tandem.

Tarasov is a pending UFA, just like Boborovsky.

So, "as of now" the Panthers tandem is the exact same as it was at the end of the season Boborovsky and Tarasov with Schmid as the #3.

Yeah, the guy has certainly had a few lousy seasons, but over his long career he's had many more good/great seasons. Most importantly, he was totally dialled in when Florida needed him most two and three years ago.

I happen to believe Bobrovsky was a huge part of Florida's wins. Getting that level of goaltending out of a lesser goalie is possible, but much harder to find than some people think.

Tarasov is also a UFA and I think they let him walk. They have a few options since they have a ~2-4 mil in cap space after signing Gudas.

Florida seems like to Schmid as a 3rd is a decent amount to pay for a backup as opposed to just re-signing Tarasov. So he's more insurance for whatever 1A they go with, whether that's a UFA like Bob/Andersen/Skinner or they trade for Stolarz/Binnington/Gru/etc. with retention or ERod going the other way.

Literally read the first page of this thread. Point me to who brought up the Leafs at all, until the usual suspects showed up, and started their hilarious hope based, self projecting, victory laps.

Simple reading would prove you are incorrect. You can also do this same exercise on any Florida Panthers related thread so far this offseason. Same posters, same end result.
Imagine the mods actually dealt with people that had clear agenda posting? This site would be way better.

There are a few specific Cats fans that routinely troll Leafs fans as well.

Some really good Florida fans that I've interacted with as well, though.

Regardless, my view on this is that Bill Zito deserves the benefit of a doubt when it comes to roster construction. You build back-to-back Stanley Cup Champions, pretty good chance you know what you're doing. Schmid isn't the worst they could've done, and I doubt they're done yet. Florida will be right back in the mix this year.
Yes there are, and yes it goes both ways.

with that defense in front of him if they can stay healthy Schmid is going to post a +.900 and win 30 games.

the only way VGK is going to dump hill is if they include their next first rounder plus connelly wozniak and piiparinan. what a bad contract.
