So.. They roll out their D right now with:

Ekblad - Weegar
Gudas - Forsling
Chiarot - Montour

With Lindbohm in scratches....

Geez, Vatrano's sacrifice will not be in vain.
Carlsson is a good #8 too. Plus further depth in Kiersted and Priskie who would be solid black aces. Much better depth than last year.

Does this Ty guy play C ?

Habs got a great haul fir Chiarot, but Panthers got a real good play off warrior.

Interesting what the remaining teams are going to have to pay for a Dman.
He was drafted as a C, but he may be better suited as a lw. He's solid defensively though, just is more of a sniper than a playmaker. He'll probably be a guy who can play C in a pinch.

Chariot is going to fetch more than Giroux.

Gm's are so dumb
Called supply and demand. Let s see what Giroux fetches but with the full NMC he can really limit the demand factor. If he is ready to waive it for let s say 3/4 teams though you can have a fierce competition between those teams driving the price higher.

I think it s good for both teams. Low risk for FLA because they should still be contenders next year but potentially high gains if they manage to win the cup.
Seems to be a gap between top 8 and the rest this year in the East.
Additional draft potential for a rebuilding team.

Florida better not fall off next year for their own sake. The 2023 1st is unprotected no matter what. Whether Buffalo or the Habs get it.
There is a huge gap between top 8 and the rest in the East. Even assuming that CBJ and NYI get better next year, WSH PIT and BOS are all more likely to be the ones out rather than FLA. Not much of a risk IMO

It’s a 2023 first so I’m thinking Bedard

For the extra 1st this year from the Flames my guess is Miroshnichenko

If that’s the case this is the most insane thing Montreal could ever ask for. A lottery unprotected 2023 first is ridiculous. Who the heck knows in a year where Florida may be at!?!? Montreal has skills on the phone I gotta say that much

Another point that no one is mentioning is that the 2023 is considered much deeper than the 2022 draft. So in theory a 1st rounder in 2023 is worth more than the one in 2022.

Congrats to Montreal, great trade for them.
We needed a D, but man talk about an overpayment. IDK what Zito is doing here.

Leafs fans are happy Dumbass didn’t trade a 1st for Chariot while Matthews will still have to face Chariot in the 1st round 😂

Αιγιο-ΕΛΛΑΔΑ
Verhaeghe - Barkov - Giroux
Huberdeau - Bennett - Duclair
Marchment - Lundell - Reinhart
Lomberg - Lusto - Hornqvist

Forsling - Ekblad
Chiarot - Weegar
Montour - Gudas

If Florida gets Giroux, that is what you probably see game 1 of the playoffs. Best equipped team to make it through the Eastern Conference gauntlet. With the team Zito assembled since arriving, we needed that tough, physical LD. We have enough offensive Dmen, and even if the price was a lot, if it means a Cup hoist for the Panthers, you do this trade 11 times out of 10.

Really liked Chiarot with the Habs, he’s got a nice enough first pass and is not afraid to handle the puck a bit (he’s not Bobby Orr, but better in those aspects than his reputation suggest). I believe he’ll thrive in a well structured team where he’ll have the right role and his advanced stats will improve.

Hey! I exist!
(I kept saying chiarot sucks and that it amazed me that GMs are dumb enough to give that kind of value for him)

A. He doesn't suck.
B. Aren't you tired at crapping on Habs players on the Main Boards for Likes? Fricking HFINO(Hab Fan In Name Only)

…would have preferred to say whatever Arizona was asking for chick

Is Chychrun a better D-man than Chiarot? Sure. Is he what the Cats need? Chiarot will come as advertised. A fast bruising defensive D-man that can pot in the odd goal.

You don’t have to keep defending this horrible defenseman.

You guys got a kings ransom for a guy that takes penalties at will and spends every shift getting caved in on the defensive side of the puck.

Wait. You think Chiarot is bad at D? There's a reason why Price loves him and why he's worth his weight in gold in the playoffs. He also helped us take out VGK. I guess he could've helped you guys with that last year.

They don’t but Chiarot is not worth what he got, not by a long shot. That said, that’s great for Montreal and embarassing for Florida. Can’t win em all though.

Chiarot is worth what the market says he's worth. The Canes have plenty of great D, FLA needed a bot of a power-up do here we are.

Weber, Price and Danault are the players that shut down the leafs

Chiarot, Edmundson and Petry all helped slapping around the Leafs.

Take the W, Habs got a great return for trash. A+ job

Chiarot? trash? He's the new prototypical modern defensive defenseman. Fast, physical, can move the puck out and as a bonus has a decent shot.

But he wasn’t great last year either? He only looked good in the playoffs, which is an outlier.

You think the playoffs are an outlier? So you think the fact that some can't elevate for the playoffs is a never-you-mind? Interesting position.

I feel like Florida could have gave up a little more and got Hampus Lindholm the defensemen that is twice as good as Chairot....

Not sure Lindholm gets traded at all. People were talking about Hertl earlier but now he's sticking around SJS for the long haul.

BTW, Carey Price got you past the leafs, not Ben Chiarot lol

I know you don't really follow hockey much but Price wasn't spectacular against TML.

I liked the route the Leafs took, getting an under the radar, younger defenseman for cheaper.

With subsequent results dunno if they should stick with that tack. Their young D were atrocious against the Habs and made some BAD mistakes.

Didn't you say, like an hour ago, that you expected a second for him?

You can just skip all of HabsWhiteKnightLOL's posts. He's just a miserable bugger.

I think Chiarot is a little redundant given the Cats already have Gudas

What I realized during last year's playoffs was that if you have plenty of beef on the back end what you'll need is then actually MORE beef. Weber, Chiarot, Edmundson and Petry demolished every team they faced until TBL. They were running on fumes by then.

They’re literally posting in this thread saying they were wrong, but go off.

Actually most are either claiming that MTL actually got nothing of value or that Bill Zito's an idiot and FLA got fleeced.

His defensive metrics are also atrocious. He was overused, okay. I think he’ll be fine in a 4/5 role on a good team but that price is still steep for that.

A solid second pairing D-man will cost ya.

You’re a good sport, but don’t beat yourself up too badly. After all, they did have to eat 50% to make it happen, sooo…

So? It cost the Habs what a quarter mil? That's a pittance. Geoff Molson's not the perfect owner but he's not broke-ass Eugene Melnyk. For the Habs organization it's a nothing.

No way in hell, I’d have paid that for Chiarot.

Really? Even after you saw him help the Habs dismantle the Jets in four straight? Also didn't you use to also be a Habs fan?

...Chiarot was always going to get more IMHO and it shouldn't be a surprise. An aging Giroux doesn't have the value of Chiarot in his relative prime, with supply and demand for a player of his size, calibre and proven pedigree in the playoffs as early as last year. I'm not surprised MTL got the package he got in this case.

As a guy who has watched alot of chiarot since he joined the habs, I never understood the crowd that was adamant chiarot couldn't return a late first..... Which would actually be labeled a 2nd rounder not too long ago.

He's not a bad dman... Decent 2nd pair option for a team hoping to survive the playoff marathon..
