Gonna love it if he doesnt get a 1st rounder like every Habs fan thinks he will. It will be hilarious.

EDIT:
Well I was way off and made an ass if myself whilst doing it 😂

I guess Every Habs fan can hilariously take the piss out of me now. I deserve it 😂😂
You’re a good sport, but don’t beat yourself up too badly. After all, they did have to eat 50% to make it happen, sooo…

This is embarrassing.

Why pretend you have a take on a player when it's quite obvious you don't have a clue what you're talking about? You might be able to get away with bullshitting about hockey and pretending you know a lot about the league at the water cooler, but in this place there are tons of fans who really *do* know a lot about hockey players and various teams and when you say dumb things like this you instantly expose yourself as being clueless.

What's the point?
I’m surprised it was Zito willing to pay it. Is what it is though.

That will be a pk pairing. Welcome to the front of the net. Let me introduce you to.....PAIN.

He was paired with Shae Weber last playoffs and together they pretty much bullied every single teams we went against, until Tampa Bay (because Shae Weber was pretty much holding up with duct tape at that point).

Gudas/Chiarot has the potential to do just about the same. No way the soff Laffs will go near those two big f***ers

That was going to happen regardless. Teams at the top of the standings are generally maxed out cap wise. Chiarot's good contract and the benefit of Montreal's ability to retain was always a factor overlooked by trade enthusiasts. He also has recent solid playoff experience with both Winnipeg (Final Four) and Montreal (Final), as a top 4D playing 25 minutes a night.

Montreal was always going to get a 1st.

You have Chychrun and Lindholm available. Both superior players over Chiarot let’s be honest here. That would bring the price down lower on Defense, because teams would be all in on those pieces instead. That’s not even to mention the price of Middleton who’s been talked about also.
If Anaheim re-signs Hampus, then that thins out the FA milk quite a bit. Someone gets left out of the sweepstakes. It's also possible a team like Anaheim, Buffalo or a dark horse go after Chychrun, leaving nothing but skim milk, My strange suspicion is Toronto goes all in on Lindholm.

I agree with the first part (mentioned it myself, too, regarding Giordano's value, for example).

But the first rounder ? We were getting equivalent value, but a 1st round pick as such wasn't a sure thing..... if Calgary had offered Pelletier, they'd have Chiarot right now, even though he's a prospect and not a 1st round pick.

Does this Ty guy play C ?

Habs got a great haul fir Chiarot, but Panthers got a real good play off warrior.

Interesting what the remaining teams are going to have to pay for a Dman.

You’ll agree with me that Ben Chiarot’s value @ 50% retained > Ben Chiarot’s value @ full cap hit, right?

But all Habs fans were taking that into account from the start. It was obvious that the Habs would retain on an expiring contract to get more bidders.

Anyone saying that the difference between expected value and value with retention is what explains the 1st just wasn't paying attention. Retention was always on the table.

Anaheim isn’t in the market for an over extension of 5 years. And Lindholm is demanding that. Also to add, Anaheims GM Verbeek has said he doesn’t like long term deals. I don’t blame em. You know how long it’s taken the club to get over Kesler and Bieksa? It’s a fricken mess. With Hertl signing 8 by 8 today. Lindholm and Rakell are gone. The long term the NHL loves to do on players doesn’t work here in Anaheim. It’s not worth the inevitable handicap of injury brewing.

Both sides play hardball in negotiations. I think it's a better chance that Hampus leaves, but it's far from a certainty he doesn't re-sign. Many times the Ducks get guys to take less than they want, or what market value is.

Thanks for agreeing with me.

I’d be wary of speaking for all fans of the team you cheer for, though. There’s a bunch that cheer for my team whom I certainly wouldn’t vouch for.

Well Verbeek better stand his ground. You can ask any Ducks fan how pissed off they still are with Kesler and Bieksa contracts. And they sure as hell don’t want that happening again on a long term deal with Lindholm. We already have a huge one with Gibson who pouts, and is injury prone. Imagine another long one with Lindholm
