Greedy, but it would be nice for Zito to find another gem in FA for the blueline again.

This year our starting 6 is fine, but the depth isn't really up to the task, even for 3rd pairing duties. Definitely got spoiled with someone like OEL on the 3rd pairing at times. Balsacks was a nice find, but not sure if he's ever going to get that consistency for full time 3rd pairing, and Schmidt is unfortunately here on the downside of his playing career.

Jones would definitely shine in that 2nd pairing role, but he's capable of 1st pairing with a guy like Forsling-especially once they get the ice chemistry down.

What's the boards thoughts on Nause/Alscher/Benning and their ETA-if at all for the NHL?

I really hope Benning gets games in to start the 2025-26 season. Even if it's on the 3rd pair. 20 or so games to get a good idea of where he is in his development.
Charlotte should be a playoff team so he will be needed there until they're eliminated.

Nause is in the ECHL so he's likely 2-3 years away?

Alscher is hopefully gonna turn into a Mikkola type and can become a #4 LD but I'll temper expectations and be happy with a bottom pairing D within the next 2-3 years.

By the time he is "good," will it really matter for Chicago? He is turning 24 in a few weeks. They are a dumpster fire right now. I think Knight is what he is at this point: a pretty average starter in the NHL and a good backup, but will be overpriced.

So the timeframe is 10 years? Yeah, Chicago could be good within that timeframe.

He should be on the 3rd pair, 2nd pair max without shorthanded responsibilities. I think his hockey IQ is poor, not a fan of him at all.

I think it’s too early to tell.

But he hasn’t impressed me so far.

He looks slow. And I agree about his hockey IQ. He doesn’t look like a very smart player.

From what I’ve seen, Ekblad is so much better.

Probably our most physically talented defenseman

That shot was something maybe peak Ekblad would do that we seldom see from him anymore. But I don't think he or Forsling have the ability to just power through to the net like he did in the called off goal.

Is he flawless? Nope. But PoMo trusts him a lot already. He's beating Forsling by 3 minutes on average TOI during these playoffs.

25:45 TOI for Jones.
22:35 for Forsling

Funny enough, that's the exact same TOI for Forsling for the 23-24 run. Which was #1 on the roster, just ahead of Montour at 22:39
Our 3rd pairing blueline needs extra sheltering this year, but I can't say Jones looks out of place eating those minutes.

From a cap perspective, does this mean that Florida has to put Tkachuk on LTIR or do they have the space to add Jones without doing that?

As for the trade itself, how can you argue with it? A late first and a struggling goalie. Seems like nice work by Zito if you ask me.

He definitely did some nice work in game 7 lol

(Delete1 FKA EvilHomer btw)

Glad to be wrong, Seth has elevated his play so much during the playoffs, I was foolish to doubt Zito.

What was his caphit again? Does he get like 7m for 5 years? At this level of play, he is a bargain, yet again Zito delivers.

Glad he simplified his play a bit, also he's got familiar with the system.
