Value of: Rossi to Flyers

All this over a BS rumor that never happened.
Well, the BS rumor happened, but i take your point. A "reporter" put something out that he was too lazy to fact check, and that turned out to be inaccurate. The alternative was that he intentionally put out something that was untrue to push a narrative.

There is no way that any team wouldn't give up a late 1st to get their hands on a young, 60 pt. C with 4 years of team control left.

Well our GM has that young 60pt C with 4 years of team control left right in the palm of his hand and has actively devalued him as an asset , mistreated him to the point that the relationship has soured and is fully giving him the long term Fiala treatment.

Why is Minnesota soured on Rossi? They have cap space and Rossi has developed nicely. What’s the disconnect?

I would like to say we do not know. At least i have yet to see a good reason why we need to get rid of Rossi outside of the fact it seems like the GM doesn't like him. It seems the FO have decided that Rossi isn't what they are looking for to help EK handle the top 6 center roles. Rossi is young and small, and Guerin seems to have a thing for big old guys.

My best guess is Guerin is at the win now or get fired stage and he doesn't think Rossi is a true 2C (probably more of a 2-3 center tweener). Since his job is being judged off the next 2 years, I think he is looking for something more immediate. On the Worst seats of the house (podcast done by a wild beat reporter and a tv announcer) it sounds like Minnesota has an idea how much Rossi is worth, but the Rossi camp thinks they should get more. Wild think he is 5 mil and his camp thinks 7 mil.

The Wild probably slightly lose any trade for Rossi. He’s a nice player. Maybe not a big guy but he’s competitive and skilled. Is this a situation where Rossi would have been happy to settle on something like $6 mil per but he’s angry at the team for letting him twist in the wind? Is he insisting on playing center? Move him to wing if height at center is that big of a deal breaker? It’s a shame this has to play out publicly.

all good questions and ones I've seen on wild boards as well. If the Wild were smart, they would not have been burying him on the 4th line in the playoffs (while still getting points while we keep the trash veterans their ice time). However, it was said he was dealing with injuries at the end of the season.

You are right on the first sentence. I think Wild fans need to brace ourselves that our return is not going to be as good as we like for a 23-year-old center that scored 60 points and is behind a year for development. I just hope in 6 years we aren't looking back going "why did we trade him? that was the type of player we need".

I imagine any team in the league would love to have him. Find a decent compromise and play him where he can help the most. Wild fans have had to endure a decent amount of disappointment with the whole Suter/Parise thing. I’m not sure why Guerin is being stubborn but hopefully it works out.

Slow & small. He's a middle 6 guy that wants to be paid like a top 6 guy. Guerin doesn't view him that way.
He's not a speed merchant, he isn't "slow".

Knock it off.

Go on now. Back off to the bad take board with you.

He has never played, always C, and in any event, MN is short on skilled C's, which makes Guerin's desire to trade him even more puzzling.

The situation was all messed up by perennial playoff loser Hyne's coaching decision during the playoffs to move his 2nd leading scorer to the 4th line( resulting in a 6 game loss, yet again). This has resulted in Rossi losing trust in the coaching staff going forward, so any bridge, "prove it" deal is unlikely to appeal to him, as he feels that Hynes will limit his TOI and offensive opportunities going forward, which will, in turn, lessen the contract number he can ask for when the bridge ends.

I'm disappointed for him and Wild fans. I understand that GMs have to make hard choices but at least acknowledge there is a human side to it. Letting this sort of thing play out in public is not good for anyone involved.
