We had 3.5 mil in deadline cap space, and that has nothing to do with tkachuk possibly going on LTIR. That, plus 4.5 of knights contract is 8mil, and jones came in at a little over 7mil with chicago retaining what they did. We still have space. Someone correct me if I’m wrong

Yes this is correct, except that we need to have a second goalie, so we'll be slightly over the cap even if we just call up Driedger. Puckpedia has us with $550K current cap and $630K deadline cap, and Driedger has $795K cap hit.

They'll probably have to send someone to the AHL, maybe Samo. For the time being .

I trust Zito, so I hope this works out and will keep an open mind, and even some optimism, but I've been stunningly unimpressed by Jones in Chicago, and I don't think it's all on the rest of the team.

Black or Appleby probably deserve a callup more but Driedger is the only goalie on a 1 way deal so it'll be him just to save a few bucks in a place it doesn't matter much.

Was just checking the goalie prospects we have in the system and Cooper Black is having a pretty decent season. His ECHL stats weren't great, but his AHL stats are pretty good, 7-2-1 with 3 shut outs 0.921 SV% and 1.70 GAA. I don't recall Knight ever having stats this good in the AHL. Black's also huge at 6'8". Who knows how he'll develop, but he's showing promise and there's a reason we signed him last year.

I think a lot of our G prospects have great upside and I like a lot of them. I just saw Muszelik play for the first time the other night , and liked what I saw. He did a great job against a potent BU team with the #1 pp in Hockey East. His angles were very good , he makes good reads and his reflexes were good while unspectacular. I can see why our goalie department likes him. But I think we now need to bring in a blue chip G prospect now somehow. Maybe our 2nd next year.

He's been plagued with terrible teams. Maybe we can salvage him? The talent is there. Either way he's a top4 RHD that this team has been missing since Monty left.

For all those worried about Jones… Educate yourself.

Guy’s skating is as smooth as you’ll see. He is BIG, great PKer, pretty good on retrievals, fantastic in transition…

Since entering the league, he is top-15 in points for defensemen while playing on some of the most awful teams you’ll see for a lot of years !

People have been sleeping on Seth for quite a while.

He may not bring the energy and excitement Montour can… Heck he probably won’t touch Montour’s awesome offensive season of two years ago.

But Seth Jones is 10x the player Montour was last year during our Cup-run… Zito basically said he is one of the great leaders in the league, and he had him for quite a while in Columbus. Do we trust BZ or not ?

This will end up pleasing a lot of Panthers fans. A LOT.

there was a point in history where Werenski-Jones were the best D pairing in the entire NHL. Like Toews-Makar tier.

Forsling-Jones could replicate some of that dynamic. And Jones has played in front Bob before too.
