So, they finally traded knight, you say?

I’m more surprised that they’d retain 25% with 5yrs remaining on that deal and not even having to give up Samoskevich OR our ‘26 1st rounder. Sounds like we have the freedom to trade that one still if we want to if I’m reading the details correct.

The good thing about jones too over say someone like Karlsson is 1) his age 2) he’s got size and strength 3) can still score goals and produce, helping to fill the void that montour left 4) locked in for another 5yrs at a better cap hit 5) IF Ekblad doesn’t re-sign, we have someone who can feasibly fill his shoes on the top pairing alongside Forsling. I certainly wouldn’t want Karlsson on my 1st pairing. 2nd pairing sure, but we had no backup plan in case we can’t keep Ekblad

I’m very happy with this deal especially given the retention. I still believe, including this upcoming run, that bob has 3-4 more runs in him of solid play and we’ll cross that bridge when we eventually get there. I never liked the idea of shoehorning knight in if bob was still playing at a respectable level. Spend that cap space elsewhere, you’re taking a bigger gamble holding on and hoping he pans out vs moving him, ride bob for several more years, and use the cap space on the roster

Overall good post, but not sure if Bob has 4 more runs in him....

I’m not calm at all. Sorry Zito but I hate the move

Apology accepted.

If Jones finds his game here we’re set. He will actually be playing in a real system with great players who have a winning attitude. I hate the initial give up (I love Knight to death) but this is what cup winning teams do. They don’t give a f*** about the future. Realistically Knight’s salary and future qualifying offer f***ed us. Zito definitely sees an opening after this year when Bob is gone. Our window just exploded open again.

Now that I’ve calmed down a bit. I GET IT, but Knight and a first is a bit rough. Jones better bring his A game here. Our D is now set at least.
To get someone like Jones, with retention, and plenty of term left, was not going to be easy.

I’m happier they traded Knight than Samo, for example. (I doubt Sourdif or ERod were enough and Zito did not want to touch anyone else they asked for.)

Maybe not. Maybe it’s 3. Or maybe 2. The reason why I’m not too worried is because he’s 36 right now, not 40 or anything. He’s still incredibly athletic. You see it when he’s forced to scramble, not many guys, even younger guys, move like that. And the fact that he takes his training and conditioning very seriously. Goalies in general can age better and I think he’ll age well given his conditioning and drive

Nvm this is less interesting, if Florida finishes top 10 this year the 2025 pick to Calgary becomes a 2026 pick, so even though thats not going to happen Florida cant move that pick.
Do we know for sure if they legally can’t? Or could they gamble (a very safe gamble lmao) and move it anyways, and say in the event that somehow it is a top-10 pick then would the league penalize us in some other way? I have no idea. I’m just curious if they legally can’t move that pick

From a cap perspective, does this mean that Florida has to put Tkachuk on LTIR or do they have the space to add Jones without doing that?

As for the trade itself, how can you argue with it? A late first and a struggling goalie. Seems like nice work by Zito if you ask me.

I went to the Laughs board to see if this was good for us or not. Their take:
- Jones sucks, Panthers lost
- Tkachuk is done for the season
- Big gamble for Florida
- Great that Jones went to FLA and not TOR
- Jones is a little shit, whining about own team
- Ek is walking in the summer
- FLA paid too much

This is how I know it was was great f***ing deal!

The funniest thing is we are probably Kucheroving Chucky, I love it.
