I suspect if you worked in the oil and gas industry you worked out in the boonies far from Calgary.. not some office job in downtown Calgary. Calgary's weather can be quite pleasant in the winter what with the frequent warm Chinook winds that blow through Thus making those bitter cold days infrequent and far between. Experiencing days and days of warm shirt sleeve weather in the middle of February can seem crazy to some I suppose. The spring, summer , and fall in Calgary are quite pleasant too... but you would know that if you actually lived and worked in Calgary. I can certainly say that when I lived in NS, your home, the winters were more unpleasant because it was a very wet cold that just seeped through my bones... and when it snowed... oh my God... talk about wet heavy stuff. It made snow shovelling a nightmare.. heart attack city...Unlike the usual light powder snowfall in Calgary that you can usually take a leaf blower to in order to clear it.

As for taxes, Alberta and therefore Calgary, has the lowest taxes in the country what with their low provincial tax rate and zero provincial sales tax. You would think you would know that if you actually worked and paid taxes in Alberta. I suppose though, living in NS many people probably are not used to paying much tax on their unemployment and welfare cheques. Paying taxes for the first time in their life is probably a shock to the system... so I can see why you think the taxes are high.

As for being a dump, Calgary is a clean and modern city with a spectacular view of the Rocky Mountains, what with it being located within a 45 minute drive from the most spectacular mountain range on the continent. Calgary also has a plethora of wildlife in and around the city. Deer are frequent visitors to my yard, hawks, Bald Eagles, and Ospreys are easily seen, Coyotes can be heard singing in the night, and we even get the occasional black bear or cougar wandering into the city for a visit. Calgary also contains the largest urban provincial park (Fish Creek Provincial Park) in the country, where wildlife also thrives throughout the park in a stunning treed setting. BTW, did you know that the Bow River that runs through Calgary is considered to be one of the finest trout and fly fishing spots in North America? Fisherman come from all over the world to fish the Bow River. But you should know that if you actually worked and lived in Calgary.

I don't know where you were when you had all these terrible experiences but it certainly wasn't Calgary. Edmonton perhaps? Yellowknife? Tuktoyaktuk? Glace Bay?

And what if he is, huh? Hmmm?
Then great.

But the post I replied to said Hubs is not expected to be the guy.

So if he’s not then who is?
They traded away/lost their 2 franchise names and proven engine of the team.

Hubs is awesome player but he’s in a totally new situation for him. He’s never ”had” to be the face of the franchise

Good question.. A lot of Flames fans, including me, aren't quite sure.
I mean, we're expecting Huberdeau to score a bit and assist a lot but most aren't expecting him to grab the puck in the d zone and carry it while dipsy doodling into the o zone ala Johnny Hockey. Maybe that role will fall to Elias Lindholm.. who knows. Maybe nobody will be the designated quarterback and "the guy" will vary from play to play. It may work out. Sutter is a fan of moving the puck from player to player instead of having one big carrier. He always says the puck moves faster than a skater.

Then you have to ask is Lindholm good enough to be the guy on a good team?
If he’s the leader what’s the ceiling of the team.

& don’t get me wrong.
Calgary got a helluva package for Tkachuk from the position they were in(Tkachuk helped on that) but this summer/offseason leaves lot of question marks around the team, present and future

-Florida has an amazing group of forwards, TWO top 4 Dmen, a potential top tier goalie AND Bob, who was amazing last season, for the next couple of seasons.

Wow, you have TWO top four d men. Stanley cup CONTENDERS with TWO top 4 defensemen. We might be disappointed with Huberdeau and Weegar, but you guys will be so disappointed with Tkachuk. You all think he’s this ultimate power forward. Just wait until it gets to crunch time and he disappears. Collecting that pay check and living the lifestyle in south Florida. He’s not the player you all think he is.

“He’s good on the forecheck”. No he’s not. He’s too slow to be effective on the forecheck. He’s great down low and in front of the net, but he has never been a guy that can create his own offence.

The guy isn’t a 100 point guy, even though he put up 104 points last year. Gaudreau and Lindholm drove that line and Chucky was there to clean up. Never saw the guy take over a game in his entire tenure as a Flame

It's really not lol, my case for him being easily better is clear and has been laid out multiple times now

1.) Better and more consistent production
2.) Better 2-way player
3.) Line-driver who makes those around him a lot better
4.) Better in the playoffs

It really seems like you're the one ignoring obvious facts. And I didn't even bring up Marner, you did. If you had said Kucherov or Gaudreau or Rantanen I would have a similar viewpoint

Tkachuk is a great player but acting like he's in the upper tier is wrong

Where’s the back up for your pointers?

Show me actual facts where it says Marner is very clearly better player.

On top of it
40 goals, 104 points last year
Clearly more physical/tougher to play against.
& Marner has been anything but impressive during his playoff runs.
Too many mehh series to start bragging about it as a bonus

& I didn’t bring up Marner, I argued against Tkachul being clearly below Marner

They belong to the same tier clearly.

Edit: deleted first part

Tkatchuk has done nothing to show that he cant be a ppg+ two-way forward, who brings some physicality to the top six. But all of a sudden, he is trash because he isnt a Flame anymore. You sound like a Leafs fan.

Way to just pick things in my reply, and try to come up with a completely different narrative  Your condescending, trash response is why this site has been gone to shit for a while now.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good hockey player. But it seems that Panthers fans are expecting 100+ points a year, while being elite defensively and a complete menace. He’s not that guy. When he starts trying to be a pest, he’s not a very useful hockey player.

I own a Tkachuk jersey, I’m not jaded in the slightest that he left. But the way some Panthers fans are talking is like he’s the second coming of Cam Neely. And he’s not

Quote a "Panthers fan" that expects him to be Cam Neely. Ill wait while you dont find it. He brings a facet that was lacking from the Panthers top six, thats a fact. Believe it or not, Panthers fans actually have knowledge about players outside of our team. We know what he brings, know his limitations, and have realistic expectations. You Flames fans are the ones who are shitting on him, since he is a former player now. You Flames fan are making it seem like he has peaked at 23, while Huberdeau will continue to be the more dominant player for the foreseeable future.

And by you, I mean a portion of Flames fans, not one particular individual.

I’m not shitting on Tkachuk at all. I just think a lot of Panthers fans are expecting too much out of him. I also think Flames fans might be expecting too much out of Huberdeau

This really screams Bennett all over again. Flames fans called him a bum and he’s been really good for us. Flames fans think Tkachuk will be a disappointment but we will see I guess.

Flames fans are not calling Tkachuk a bum.

Tkachuk was arguably the best player on the Flames. I think it's just the assumption that he will be a playoff savior when Huberdeau has historically been the better playoff performer that people are trying to emphasize.

I don’t think anyone called him a playoff savior on the Panthers side.

You're talking like Tkachuk is a finished product. He's been a baby so far in the nhl and just starting to enter his prime. Go look what Huberdeau did when he was 21-23 years old, he was worse offensively and a liability defensively. Tkachuk broke 100 points at the age of 24 while it took Huberdeau until 29 and Mathew is a much better two way player on top of it.

Huberdeau is an elite offensive winger who excels at playmaking but he is at the tail end of his prime and got a massive deal that takes him to 38. It's funny that all the things Flames fans criticize Tkachuk for, Huberdeau is worse in every single aspect. Playmaking may be the only thing that he has going for him and Tkachuk is no slouch in that department either.

I think you should go back and read the posts about how "we got Tkachuk for the playoffs" and come back with a better answer :P
I can assure you no one thinks he’s a hero, but provides a different element we need for playoffs. You guys seem to be projecting that Bennett crap again.

That element cuts both ways with him. He is actually better when he doesn't get drag other teams into stupid fights and the like.

It will be interesting to see how he does without Huberdeau feeding him the puck.

Just like it will be interesting to see how Tkachuk does without Gaudreau.
Bennett is going to go from Huberdeau to Reinhart. Not too bad. Tkachuk is going from Gaudreau to Barkov.

That's great. Reinhart is nowhere near the play driver or point producer Huberdeau is.

Barkov and Tkachuk might not develop chemistry. There are no sure things. Especially when you don't have a great winger to play on Barkov's other side. Or the Sutter system.
