Florida got a younger star player…not that bad tbh. They just have to find a top 4 d badly

At first I thought this was a run away win for Calgary but they got two rentals here. Huberdeau and Weegar both only have one year left. Florida just locked up a 40 goal, 100 point power forward. I'm going to hold judgment on this. If Calgary loses Huberdeau and Weegar to free agency or they get weak returns for them then Florida wins this deal. If Calgary can lock both players or go on a deep run with them then maybe it goes to Calgary.

Anyone who says Calgary won this is out to lunch. Florida got a 24 year old superstar for two pending UFAs and a late first round pick. Still has five years (six? depending on birthdate) of seasons in his 20s.

That said, considering the Flames had limited leverage considering they "had" to trade Tkachuk and other teams knew it, they didn't do half bad. I was expecting the return to be worse.
If they don't re-sign they'll bring in a haul at the deadline. Considering the situation they got great value. Could end up being something like 3 first round picks for Tkachuk.

really bizarre trade by the Flames.....Florida now has to get rid of more cap.....expect them to have another deal in place.....No way either player likely stays with Calgary so now you have to find two more trade partners when no contenders have cap space...interesting to say the least

How is it a steal?

They didn't get Lundell. They got another winger that is 5 years older and is an UFA at the end of the season.
They will get an absolute haul for Huberdeau and Weegar if they don’t re-sign on top of a 1st and a solid prospect that’s tracking to be an NHL regular. Zito got f***ing fleeced, there’s a reason absolutely no one agrees with you

Tkachuk isn’t a franchise winger. He averages less than PPG throughout his career and finally broke 100 playing with another player that scored more than him. He’s not even a line driver. He’s not good defensively, and his playoff stats are awful for what’s expected of him

Calgary signaling that they still intend to contend. Lots of cap left - I can see them signing Kadri and being no worse for the wear when the season starts.
