Hamonic has until Friday to decide if he will opt out of the season/retire .

This will then free up another 3 mil per year with the Canucks if he does so.

They already have 16 mil of space but Hughes/Pettersson will undoubtedly eat that up.

What are some trading options the Canucks can do to fix the Right Side Defence assuming they have 3-4 mil in cap space.

Also, who are some Right Shot Dmen that might be hitting the waivers before the season starts?

Manson or Shattenkirk may be available later in the season, probably not right now, though.

Manson is a player that the Vancouver fanbase has discussed over the last couple of seasons now. I think Canucks would definitely take a look should he become available.

I think we should focus on Petey and Hughes first. IF Hamonic's $3m is off and we replace him with a $1M player, that gives $1m each to Petey and Hughes. Who knows what the ask is, especially if they're looking to lock them up long term.

If the Canucks decide to go for it in the middle of the season and they still need RHD help, then Manson should be a fit. One hurdle is that he has a 12 team no trade list, and he's a pending UFA.

You're probably not fixing it by taking everyone from the core off the table and protecting your firsts when the fix is a bonafide first pair right defeseman.

Didn’t he already block a trade to the Jets? He might prefer playing out of the spotlight

What have I missed, why would Hamonic retire just months after signing a 2 year deal to keep playing?

This is the only logical reason as to why he won't show up at camp on time.
It isn't the only logical reason.

Apparently he has a daughter with serious medical issues. He might not be comfortable with the league's procedures. He's one of the guys who opted out of the league's restart and it wasn't because he was antivax, he thought the league wasn't strict enough to safely restart. Plus, there are some media people who have been emphatic that he ISN'T antivax.
