Probably not. I imagine they'll be back with their teams within a month.

Now if any of them are tweener types that a re replaceable, they may very well never play another NHL game. At least until the trial is over.
Seven or eight solid NHLers were on that 2018 squad but the majority were tweeners or never made it. I hope that discipline is not related to their quality of hockey play, if in fact they are found guilty.

When my parents died, I inherited an entire box of Berenstain Bears books. Kids love 'em.

You mean Berenstein Bears books ;)

Out of respect for the mods, and this thread, can't the London police hurry things up and name the charged people? Like, where are their priorities?

It was mentioned but they are going to have a press conference on February 5th.

That's when things likely move to the next phase.

Their chances of playing in the league again (if they are found guilty) will depend on their level of skill. People can hate that all they want, but that's the way it is.

You can hope but the NHL is a business and it will matter depending on what happens.

Players are assets and some are more expendable than others.

A not guilty ruling does not mean it was a false accusal.

If this goes before a jury the jury never gives any reasons for their decision. If it goes before a judge alone the judge will give a decision. While it is technically possible for a judge to say "not guilty because I don't believe the complainant", in my experience it's much more common for them to just say "I can't be sure beyond a reasonable doubt and thus must acquit".

Well if we make a statement that underreported cases are more prevalent than false accusations I'd like to know he each is classified.

Bit of a farce to suggest we don't know who the five players who have been asked to surrender are.

Sure, we don't speak their names but there's no uncertainty as to their identity.
Yeah, there is. Otherwise, major media outlets like TSN would be saying it explicitly.

Of course, if you're absolutely certain of their identity, you should (FA) name them here and now ... and then (FO) see how it goes.

ESPN has named them…explicitly.

They don't, though. They say that 5 players from the team have taken a leave at the same time that the investigation has called for 5 players from the team to turn themselves in.

They lay out the information in a way that makes the connection that everyone makes and is almost certainly the only logical connection that a person can make. But nowhere in there does it explicitly say "these 5 specific players are suspects/being charged for this specific incident."

They are still just saying they are taking leave amid the allegations. They are putting the names out there, and letting you draw the conclusions still.

Yeah, I'm sure HFBoards is at a greater risk for being sued than ESPN

I mean, the key to this is even in the part you can see on the screen before clicking..."amid a report".

ESPN is a professional publication (however goofy it may be) that handled the information in that article completely by the book. HFBoards is a collection of tens of thousands of hockey fans ranging from established lawyers to literal 12 years olds and has neither the resources nor the expectation to be able to handle that information to the same standard 100% of the time.

I cannot believe folks have me out here defending HF mods and ESPN's reporting standards.

Sure. Even then, maybe things are going too far if we are removing tweets from legitimate beat writers and hockey insiders. I mean it's already posted on X, so reposting those tweets here shouldn't do anything.

ESPN is also owned by Disney, one of the biggest companies in the world.

Come to hfboards to talk hockey - get this. (Not a comment about you at all schennanigans - just the fact this topic even exists, sigh)

Looking forward to the new 50 in 50 threads (minutes, not games).

Thanks team Canada!
Unfortunately a lot of the world has its questionable behaviour. There’s no industry that doesn’t do it. Most of it doesn’t come out. This is probably a small % of what we hear about. Hockey definitely is one of the worst. But it’s everywhere. Humans suck what can you do.
