Situation is somewhat similar to Craig Patrick loading up after the Pens won the Crosby lottery just to finish in 2nd to last place. I don’t think Hawks signings were as drastic/impactful but they sure opened their wallets which the owners care about.

Still need to give the kids like Bedard, Vlasic players to play with. Fans may want teams to be bad for a long time, but GMs don't have as much runway as fans think.

The other thread about who will tank for McKenna in 25/26 kind of ties into this thread because even the bad clubs like SJ, Ana, Chi, CBJ from the past 3 seasons, their GMs may not have the runway to be a bottom 3 club in 25/26 and still keep their job afterwards.
