The extremely sad thing is that while Tocc is showing he has no answers, I think the true problem is the "core" players we've invested in. I don't think they have a motor, and a new coach isn't going to get much more out of them.
I also think Chayka is still convinced he has a good core, and he's only interested in hires that echo his thinking. They cleared out everyone in the staff from scouting to medical to coaching, and it looks like they are essentially all on the same page.

I bet this year goes a lot differently if Tocchet treated Kessel the same as anyone else and scratched him at least one of the two dozen times he deserved it.

Why would guys like Stepan and Goligoski genuinely step it up if there's never any consequences for their play?

You can't coach 'up' a group of young guys and then treat the vets with kiddie gloves.

Let's say it would cost a few million to get rid of the coaching staff. Are you folks of the opinion that's an easy ask of the new Owner? Just burn up a few million??

Suppose you spend hundreds of millions buying a Vegas casino, but your management is underperforming and hurting the top and bottom line. Do you replace them? Absolutely

Has he been fired yet?
It’s insane that Chayka won’t even be forced to give a statement about his lack of action in the face of this insane free-fall (5 win in 15 games) after he traded away his 1st round pick. Our media and our fan base just doesn’t have the juice to actually hold anyone accountable for anything.

If John Chayka chooses to let this coaching staff attempt to save the season, rather than bringing in outside help, then this implosion and failure is every bit as much his fault as it is Tocchet’s. Firing Tocchet this summer instead of right now is inexcusable.

MacLean was a bargain bin hire like Allen. Last minute, from the scrap heap. He’s got to be cheap.

Tocchet only has one year left. Timing never better than that. How often is a coach simply not re-signed, rather than fired with term left on his deal? I honestly can’t think of a single case of that ever happening. It’s not how it works?

If you have to keep Housley and just move him off the PP, then fine. If that’s the budget consideration, sure. Whatever. But MacLean and Tocchet have to go.

Let's be honest, nothing will happen. Even if Chicago puts 10 on us in a couple days, it'll be the status quo. I don't think Chayka's even paying attention to the Coyotes, he's too busy running illegal combines for prospects.
Post of the year.

If you’re a Coyotes fan, and you want a coaching change, go tell Craig Morgan about it. He probably still thinks Tocchet is a Jack Adams candidate. And he won’t even bother to ask about it unless he senses a large enough fan sentiment to actually make him stop and think about it.

Are we all good with dropping 10 of our last 15? That’s okay with us? It’s okay to miss the playoffs, watch Taylor Hall run out of here as fast as he can possibly go, and watch the draft with no pick in the 1st and no pick in the 3rd? That’s just fine with us?

Let them know.

Do you think the cost to replace casino management is the same as NHL coaches and players?

It doesn’t matter. Coaches are always fired with term.
I am not disagreeing with that. Just stating that walking into the Owner's Office and asking them to eat your mistake for millions is not just another day.

And no not always, see Barry Trotz for an easy example. Not too mention most expect that coach to be rehired fairly quickly reducing your cost. Who the heck is hiring Tocc for head coach?

So if the 97 coaches fired in the last 18 months, you’ve got single a three year old example. Got it. It’s so unlike you to zero straight in on the extreme outlier.

Continue on with your silliness, I already agreed it was the norm. Do you think it's an easy conversation? Hey that guy I told you was the greatest ever?? Yeah well I want to fire him , pay him a million or so to not coach and get a new guy for about $3 or $4 million. THIS is now the right guy. Trust me on this.

And yet how many GMs have done just that over the last two years? 20?

Chayka is one of the few GMs in the league that hasn’t yet been able to have that conversation. It’s pretty common.

By the way, daydreaming dramatic, weepy, hat- in -hand scenarios in darkened offices is the silliness.

In the NHL? With a hard-cap? And a draft featuring 17-18 year olds? It happens a lot.
Once again you are confusing it happens with it's easy. Have heard many GM's talking about how difficult the conversations and that it puts you on the hot seat.

What is your point? It’s not easy to trade a guy either. And yet...

Why are you talking about this like it matters when all evidence suggests it just doesn’t? I really don’t care if it’s hard to trade guys away from their families in order to bring in better players that help you win more. And neither do you. This isn’t different from that.

Because it does matter, no NHL Owner just happily eats millions of dollars. Do you think because the Coyote's now have a rich Owner he is just going to spend money like a drunken sailor all in the hope of one day getting it right? These are tough decisions that are calculated from both the performance and financial side.

And trading a guy has F all to do with this conversation unless you are eating salary to make the trade.
