If either of Gallant or Laviolette are willing to sign here, we should fire Tocchet tonight
If they fire Tocc, they'd likely promote Housley. Could go from bad to worse.

If they lose tonight aren’t they 1-8-1 in their last 10? That’s definitely a fire the coaching staff performance at this critical time of the season. The team acquired Taylor Hall and immediately and completely choked. It’s inexcusable.

This is the perfect time to make a change behind the bench. There’s still some daylight. Still enough runway. It’s not too late to spark something.

If the Coyotes lose tonight, and Chayka doesn’t fire Tocchet, this choke-job is 100% as much on Chayka as it is on the coaches and the players.
Is firing RT now going to help? Will new coach with a new system at this time of year turn things around? I doubt it, unless the players have totally tuned out RT.

One thing I do think about all this is that replacing RT would send a clear message that this organization is not messing around and intent on getting better. Not your same ol’ Yotes.

I was thinking about this last night. I'm not sure one way or another. That's probably pretty bad that it's even a question, though. If they have, there is no other choice but to move on from him.

I am sure that this team, while possibly not a SC contender, should DEFINITELY not be the type of team to lose 6 of the last 7 games. That's just unacceptable and shows that something is definitely going wrong.

Since he's taken over, this team has shown a tendency to go on LOOOONG stretches of poor play.

Whether it's helpful this season or not probably depends on who takes over and some luck. It could be exactly what the team needs or it could lead to more poor play. But I do know that this team can't keep doing what it's been doing lately and stay pat with the same coaches.

Good news is this... A new coach would have a hard time doing worse than losing 6 out of the last 7.

Tonight should be telling. They should look like a brand new team. They should be able to win by at least 2. They should be playing with piss and vinegar. If they look sloppy, lazy and apathetic again RT needs to go before the rest of the season is completely lost.

BTW, has anyone looked at the schedule for February? Cause boy-oh-boy is it rough.

This. I’m giving RT tonight. Lose the next two. You get passed by Chicago. They were OUT OF IT a month ago.

They need to win 10 games of the next 13 before the trade deadline. If not, fire everyone, trade everyone

Let's say it would cost a few million to get rid of the coaching staff. Are you folks of the opinion that's an easy ask of the new Owner? Just burn up a few million??

Depends... if it helps the team make the playoffs that will help offset that AND probably grow more of the fan base. That's definitely worth it.

If they fire the staff and lose more then it's a harder pill to swallow.

Either way, if they believe that they won't have success with these coaches I think the decision is made for them. If Meruelo says he wants to win, then that's what he's going to focus on.

This franchise has floundered in mediocrity because of the thought of "it could be expensive" and the owners didn't have the $ to make those choices. The franchise needs to win to become viable. In the long run, being cheap has cost this franchise a lot. They need to make the decision that allows them to win the most.

I should have included all the thoughts on the player movement stuff. I'm sure the Owner wants to win but walking into a guy's office and asking him to eat millions of dollars is a monumental task, I dont care how rich they are. Many GM's have spoken of this in the past. I would assume the new owner has an accepted level of loss on his way to profitability , just adding millions might not be part of that plan quickly.

Watching his "buckle up..." soundbite from last night really irritates me. He caps the comment with a weird "I've been telling you guys...* jab at the press folks on hand?

The reason he's being asked the question is because the supporters and press KNOW it doesn't get easier, and want to hear an explanation for why the team is pissing away points against the damned Ducks. Acting petulant about the question made HIM look bad, not them.

It made him sound as if he had "no answers"...which is probably true and the reason why he doesn't need to be the coach anymore.

Not really. They certainly aren't a tough hard hitting team but by being bigger they have a physical edge over the Coyotes.
When we played them with our style of close-checking hockey last year, it appeared that we were more aggressive and played bigger than TML, IMO.

FWIW Tocchet sounds like this after every loss where we don't score (I listen to the post-game on the way home after every home game). He never has any answers as to why we don't score -- most memorable line for me was when he said, "since I got here we've been working on the extra man, we still haven't figured it out" -- forget which game but it was after a 6-5 that didn't generate anything

Remember thinking to myself -- wow that's a lot of time to not figure something out. Maybe Tocchet should read some books or something

The problem could be translating what they practice into the game setting.

They have been spending a lot of practice time on the PP and for all we know they could have a great practice, but come game time they can’t execute the same. Maybe it’s mental or maybe it’s something else but we’ve seen times where the PP has clicked, but it’s been way too far and in between.

I dunno.... seems like we’re still looking for that perfect pass instead of just zipping the puck around and shooting at the instant the D is slightly out of position.

Any thing change in that year? Like I said they dont exactly hit but when you average above the League average in weight there is a physical aspect to just being big. It hurts more and takes more energy to hit Matthew's vs Keller as an example.

I posted the following in the last game thread. I don't think Chayka will or has even thought about firing Tocc.

“Rick was the best candidate by a wide margin,” Chayka said.

“He’s a man of character and integrity,” Chayka said. “Any issues in the past are in the past. It didn’t raise any red flags for us whatsoever.”

“To me, I want to see how a person reacts from his mistakes or his actions on the ice or off ice,” he said in a conference call. “To me, that’s high character guys that can do that — that can come back from certain things.”

“He’s one of the best communicators I’ve come across not only in hockey but probably professionally as well,” Chayka said. ”... I think he can just relate to the players. He’s very firm. He can motivate. He can be aggressive in his approach, but he can also be that big brother kind of approach with our young players and I think that’s going to be helpful moving forward.”

Chayka said Tocchet has a clear idea of the style he wants his team to play.
“He wants to play fast. He wants to play aggressive. He wants to dictate time and space,” Chayka said.

The whole "ask them about the powerplay...I'm tired of talking about it..." bit? Well...so are we.

Difference is, the buck stops with him. He clearly cant or doesnt know how to fix the problem.

That means it's time to go.
Maybe he has lost the room?

Let's be honest, nothing will happen. Even if Chicago puts 10 on us in a couple days, it'll be the status quo. I don't think Chayka's even paying attention to the Coyotes, he's too busy running illegal combines for prospects.
