i'm not too hot on tooting the regular season stats when we all knew the demons needed to be exorcised in the 1st round and well, the special teams were decimated with no adjustment
Especially when you see Tochet figured out how to shut down EDM PP... 3rd season in a row Kings bring a plastic fork to a gun fight

I dont really understand the point youre trying to make, the league is becoming more and more skilled so the relative % is expected to go up over time, right? prior to Hiller, the Kings were ranked 27th, 19th, 26th, 27th, 17th, and so on....you get the idea. he has absolutely made a difference in LA
I didn’t say he didn’t make a difference. The point I am making is that it’s all relative and that his power play “prowess” is a bit overblown.

The power play dropped off this year compared to last year, and last year’s under-the-hood numbers showed some red flags that were clues that the rate they converted at in 2022-23 was not sustainable. The power play was indisputably worse this season, and it was abysmal in the postseason. Not only that but power play genius Jim Hiller expressly denounced any changes needing to be made to the power play in the middle of the series when they were already miserable at it.

I don’t know how some of you are actually fine with Hiller being HC. If he’s head coach that means that he’s not really head coach. They needed a real coach who was going to make the team play the best they can with what they have. They got Hiller who seems to have zero spine playing a style that he has apparently no say over and if he does have a say, then he’s a f***ing idiot too.
How in the hell can an nhl hc be dictated to by anybody about the system he runs? Obviously the gm and the hc confer etc but if hiller lets blake tell him whats up about the system, lines player playing time etc then hiller doesnt have the balls of a insect

I think judging by the end of the season exit interviews that Luc and Blake dictate a lot more than they should be.

Thanks for jumbling important Kings topics into a messy ball of confusion @Schmooley
Sorry Surf Nutz but its not me editing the title I think its a moderator.
I made this thread to put some heat on them in the playoffs because they got blown out at home in such an embarrassing fashion that it should have been enough for heads to roll.
Apparently it wasnt and they are going to run it back like we didnt see them whimper out of the playoffs.
Feel free to lock this one and start a new Hiller thread and offseason thread separately.

Funny how Kempe turning into a more well rounded player was the biggest reason for the power play taking a step back.

There is zero strategic vision in this management group. The sooner there is a regime change, house cleaning and rebuild, the better off fans will be.

Who is the moderator?

That Pablo Mastreoni guy?

Thanks for the update, I was marooned on south pacific atoll for 9 months.

Seems like you editorialized a bit, that's not like you?

Gee who'd a thunk?

I gotta get more fired up and less faced with the Kings record, before I thread anything other than the tube.

I wouldn't put too much on Kempe, their needs to be more variability and changing things up, when your are returning to the honey hole shot in consecutive seasons.

It's hard to really judge Hiller considering he more a less carried over Todd's system when he was promoted, I will say I hated some of the line combos he threw out in the playoffs though such as the vomit inducing matching of Fiala with Lewis. We'll see what he implements with a full off season and training camp to put his stamp on things. The obvious things I'm hoping for are implementing a much more aggressive forecheck as well as having the stones to take Doughty off PP 1 in favor of Clarke along with putting Dubois (assuming he's still here) net front on the 1st unit instead of Kopi.

1st unit should be:

Dubois
Fiala Byfield Kempe
Clarke

The thread title has been the same for over a month and updated for clarification what's the problem?

Not sure , but whatever, no big. Just wanted to confirm my suspicion on who the mod here is.

Yours in complete compliance, my comrade brother...

As Kings fans, we inherently are conditioned to accept bad management. Most of us can stomach being a lukewarm defender in the worst of times. And a few can see reason and decide it’s not worth sacrificing their dignity to defend a group of incompetents.

Results bear out in the end. The good news is that we are one step closer today to moving past the historical baggage that weighs the franchise down.

In my opinion it will be another 2-3 years before we are rid of BLuc and crew. But we are well on the way and much closer than we were on April 2017.

When bluc dictate a system/ playing time/ lines etc to the hc it gives them yet another excuse and a scapegoat for thier inappropriate unethical behavior. Poor sap.

I think people (not you necessarily) overlook Hiller's body of work with the powerplay before coming to LA.

In his two years manning the Islanders a man (or two) up, the power play operated at 19.6 percent.

With Detroit, they went from 18th overall in powerplay (17.8%) in 2013-14 to 2nd overall after he was hired in 2014-15. He left after the season, and Detroit went back down to 13th at 18.8%.

Upon joining Toronto, their PP went from 26th at 15.9% to 29th at 15.4% - which was the year they won the Matthews lottery. Even with the Leafs at their worst, he kept the team at the same level. After one season, these were Toronto's PP% rankings and numbers:
2nd - 23.8%
2nd - 25%
8th - 21.8%

So, his not admitting the powerplay needs work is certainly alarming, but when he gets to do his thing, and with even a mediocre team, he has elevated every team's powerplay.

He can't turn water to wine, but he has a reputation as a good powerplay coach for a reason.
