And I really hate to throw these bad vibes out there, but I'm highly convinced that Ruff will play Daws both games of the back to back. I've really been thinking that for the last few days and now that we're in desperation time, he's really gonna wanna play him both games.

I'm not quite as convinced of this as I am that Ruff is in his final year here, so don't @ me if I'm wrong on that one. I certainly hope I am, but right now I'm feeling Daws plays both.

Maybe Poulter gets the Saturday game? Seems less likely now than ever after it being an absolute must win (so was the Capitals game, we saw how that went), but it feels like Poulter is basically here to be a JAG backup to sit on the bench while Daws plays, rather than dress an EBUG.

Daws looked lost out there tonight. I'm afraid of what becomes of this kid if Ruff does this

Playing behind a Ruff defense leaves goalies terrified that wide open shots can come from anywhere on the ice at any time.

They end up panicked whenever the puck starts to cycle. I think it may get worse and worse mentally as you play behind it longer.

Don't you know?
Don't you know things can change
Things'll go your way
If you hold on for one more day
Can you hold on for one more day
Things'll go your way
Hold on for one more day

I thought they (or maybe just one of them) were really cute back in 1990. It may have been the shorter haired one.

If I watched that video today I may not feel that way anymore, but I thought she was pretty sexy crawling around on the sand (that's how I remember the video) haha.

Honestly, Ruff did him no favors in 2022, which I was pumping that meme out back then too.

It may have actually saved Ruff, as Gillies was completely unplayable. I'd have to think Gillies was worth a couple more losses if you swapped him and Daws in some of those games or at least a handful of points or so.

Flames fan in peace, any chance your ownership/GM is still willing to make a move for Markstrom to save the season? Or is your FO more pragmatic than that and willing to wait till the summer?

Problem is I don't think it will save our season. Actually, right now, our problem is less goaltending (daws is better) and more stupid mistakes made and absolute worst PP in league since whenever this year. We had like 12 mins of PP time and we got 0 goals. No exaggaration.

Goaltending was a problem most of season until we found daws. Now it's other parts of the team. Can't catch a f***ing break.

I see very little chance of an in season trade for Markstrom now.

Trading for him now, only for him to get lit up behind this defense would add fuel to the "clean house" fire. It would be a horrible look for Fitzgerald.

This season is not over. Sorry if this is what some think but we can still could get in. All you need is a team or two that tail spins with 5 or 6 losses in a row and we start winning a few.
The team that is going to lose 5 or 6 in a row is us. How do you possible think we are going to win a few? We can't win more than 2 games and if we even win 2 it's like winning the Lotto. The season is over. Face it.

Doubt it

Let him start new next year, under a new goalie coach and head coach.

He's still a more attractive option to me than John Gibson (YUCK!) but I think we only have a very small window with Markstrom, due to his age.

At this point I think it's unlikely they make that kind of trade, but who's to say. Fitz just doesn't strike me as a guy who is going to be desperate when the very realistic situation is that this team is not going to make the playoffs.

It depends. How many firsts will Calgary attach to move that boat anchor contract?

Ok no. As others have said it doesn’t seem to make sense right now given how NJ’s entire team has cratered.

Hynes is the only Devils head coach to get a year 5 after three out of four years being playoff misses. Doug Carpenter missed the playoffs 3 years in a row before getting fired 50 games into year four by Lou and replaced with Schoenfeld. That was Lou's first ever head coaching change.

Because of the state of the franchise at the time Hynes was head coach, it was understandable he got as long as he did. I think he should have been fired in October of that year, as that's when it became abundantly clear it was not going to work out, but I understand why he got a year 5.

The only positive from that game is that it might actually have been disgraceful enough to get Lindy fired. Blown out by the Rags in their own barn.

All the hallmarks of a classic Lindy failure. Completely unprepared to play and give up the first goal? Check. Abominal special teams, including being unable to score on a major? Check. Running your rookie goalie into the ground? Check. Using Brendan Smith in a role he's woefully unqualified for? Check.

There are Actually Good coaches available! Berube, Evason, Woodcroft, etc. Just boot Lindy! Moreso than the goaltending, this is Fitz's biggest mistake and has become a critical failure by him.

I feel pretty vindicated (but hollow that they pissed away a contending season with this guy) that I was never a fan of Lindy. Not once. Not ever. Not even last season, when they won in spite of his awful systems, preparation, and decision-making. I always wanted him gone and hopefully it might happen now.

"Pressed on this (the poor PP) after the game, Ruff said he’s working with his staff on better options – and said reporters were creating “excess pressure” by asking players about the lifeless unit."

“I imagine you’ve asked every player – now they’re feeling it and you guys are creating excess pressure,” Ruff told reporters.

Change some damn players on it then. Get the Hughes princesses off it or at least the 20 year old one who hasn’t played a single game of the season not on PP1 despite struggling for long stretches, us having a highly gifted 2nd overall pick behind him and us having a 9 million dollar top 5-10 offensive defensmen at the start of the season.

Why has his role been so solidified since the start of the season (since the off-season really)

I for one am relieved to learn it's not goaltending, coaching or a lack of special teams chemistry that's holding this team back, it's just poor reporting.

Phew.
I think people just want some pressure and accountability right now because that’s one of the biggest problems within the team and organization right now. Too many people aren’t held accountable and whine if they are or things don’t go their way.

Lindy’s a baby and any other middle of the pack prospect or player would get crossed off most lists if they acted and reacted like the Hughes brothers
