since his Buffalo days, he has coached 8 seasons (including this one). He has made the playoffs 3 times and is on track to miss again this season.

What respect should he have?

As I said earlier in the thread, it’s okay to acknowledge the good stuff that happened during Ruff’s tenure too. I want him gone just as much as anyone else here, but at this point, I don’t think he deserves to have “Fire Lindy” chanted at him at every home game either. I also don’t see much benefit to letting him go at this point unless Fitz has his long term replacement ready to take over. An interim-HC would very likely be Green, and I don’t think any of us wants that to add any confusion to Fitz’s long term HC decisions.

I don't understand this. All that should matter now is Ruff is not getting the job done. What happens after him is a different question.

Well, they are not mutually exclusive of each other, so it’s very much something that needs to be considered.

Ruff should have been let go when the season was still salvageable. He wasn’t. Now this season is pretty much over.

Seeing how Fitz handled the Ruff situation, especially with Brunnette in the organization at one point, do you really think it’s unreasonable to be a little wary that Green might generate some goodwill with a handful of wins? Long term, I think that would be a mistake. If he’s truly just an interim, sure. I don’t have much faith that would 100% be the case though.

I would hope that Fitz is smart enough to know that we probably are going to string together a bunch of garbage wins in up coming weeks no matter who is coaching?

I wonder what the music would sound like if you got John Williams to conduct the highschool marching band...I think it would still sound like the highschool marching band?

Just a hunch.
As a musician I can tell you that the band will in fact play and sound better with someone like Leonard Bernstein at the helm vs the average high school music teacher.

Thanks for proving the point.

Better? Is that like "good for a 19 year old defenseman"

No more like “sum is greater than the individual parts”. There are some amazing high school bands out there, usually the ones that have a great program and great educators/leaders.

Surely someone who admires what Lou did here understands this concept and recognizes what a difference coaching and leadership can make…?

You make a good point, but so does JIm. I think a lot of the blame for this season is organizational. Ruff is the guy behind the bench and has that awful system which he imposed on a team with children on defense, but he didn't choose that roster approach, nor was it his decision to wait until this season to release to press charges that should have been done years ago on McLeod. And of course, the injuries are crippling. Just frustrating on so many levels.

Wait til the next coach has to figure out how to incorporate Bahl Luke and Nemec....this ain't going away next year
It's not that hard to figure out. Nemec is already better than most defenders we can sign. Hughes, Nemec & Bahl will have 1 year of experience under them. If anything we can trade Bahl & get an experienced defender. Don't forget we will have Hamilton back. Just because we have 2 younger dmen shouldn't mean we automatically suck. Saying so is just a loser mentality mindset already making excuses before next season even starts. If we replace Bahl with a Vet we aren't bad at all on the backend. There's no excuse. Fitz has declared we are in our win now window. Since he declared that us as fans will expect nothing less. Get rid of the lame duck coach. Stop playing pond hockey, play better defense, focus on making the more simple plays and all will be so much better.

They will almost certainly have a different coach next season even if they can Ruff tomorrow. They are going to try a third system this season? It will make everyone (the fans) feel better but an interim coach doesn’t do much to help next season’s level of play in my view. But it does send a message to players that they let down the organization which I presume is the main reason that sort of move gets made.

the time would have been months ago. at this point just let him ride out the season and step down gracefully.

i hope the fans understand this and we don’t hear many fire lindy chants, at this point it’s just bad form.

i just saw the lines for tonight and i retract this. if you’re gonna keep playing hughes with smith then just don’t coach the team anymore lol

Bahl is a terrible puck mover but he is our most physical Dman.

Hughes and Nemec likely won't be hitters by next year, not sure Luke ever will. Dougie and Marino don't hit and Siegs may throw some but overall we will be soft to play against.

Have to hope them all growing next year will make a big difference but Dougie needs to come back recovered, which could be a long shot in terms of him being back to the player he was before.

And then up front, we are pretty soft.

Bahl isn't that physical considering he's a 6'6 monster. At that size you should be tenacious which he isn't. Is he the most physical out of our group? Sure but this isnt saying much at all. I would be down if we went after big Z. I think he's what we need on our backend. A big dude who uses his size and can play with some presence.

You must be talking about Zadorov?

Big Z will always make me think of Chara, who is now 47 years old and hasn’t played in two years lol. I was like “Is this serious?”.

As someone who leads the "fire Lindy" 2.0 (arguably should've been fired after 1.0 but I digress) brigade pretty proudly around here, I pretty much agree. I much rather Lindy just end the year and then see what happens from there in April. The most cataclysmic result would be if Green took over and they somehow got a coaching boost and the guy becomes our new coach when we've seen his even worse track record than Lindy's in Vancouver. This team is winning jack shit with Travis Green as coach if the powerplay is any indicator. The time to fire Lindy was early on but it was never gonna happen then with the injuries and us getting back to health this late probably saved his job the whole year but once the year ends + most likely miss then you 100% clean house with the coaching staff
