I think DJ is a pretty good coach but starting next year a new voice is probably needed for this team to take the next step. Dorion needs to go either way.

it’s not even that they won’t play meaningful games in March, it’s that they are playing right now like the games have no meaning. That effort last night was sad, so many of the big ticket guys not playing 2-way and just a general lack of pride in the crest.

this team isn’t sophisticated at all. they have no leadership To make guys like Tkachuk or Batherson play 2-way hockey.
Well we were playing short handed,
Crap, 3 more injuries to deal with.

Says who? Only person who didn't like him was Chris Neil to my knowledge. Bobby Ryan says Guy was his favorite coach. Not to mention we went to the Conference finals playing his system. He deserves a lot of credit for our last run.
A gimmick coach you refused adjust his left wing lock after it got figured out. Most boring style of play ever. I loved when the Philly D refused to move from the back of their net when Boucher coached Tampa.

His left wing lock was effective. If I have to choose between entertaining or winning, ideally I'd pick both... but I go winning over entertaining every day.

I honestly did not find that era boring at all though. Those games were intense. And we had a lot of talent. Whenever we scored it felt huge. Despite how "exciting" we are now I get distracted easily because a lot of it is frankly painful to watch, plus we are always out of the playoff race so nothing matters.

Winning by playing the most boring hockey imaginable holds no appeal to me.

I didn't find that conference finals run boring at all.

Some games in the regular season that year were definitely duds on the excitement scale, but that's better than losing like we have the last few years.

What's the back story about Neil not liking him?

What's the back story about Neil not liking him?
Lack of communication with benching him in the playoffs. Didn’t seem like he was much of a players coach or good communicator in general.

Neil ended up finally getting in a game and neutralized Tanner Glass (think it was him?) and turned the series.

I think Neil felt like he was disrespectful. It might have been on the Wally and Methot show

There is no question Neil turned that NY series in our favor. No one ever heard of Tanner Glass again lol. But Neil's time was coming to an end and we had better options for most nights. I kinda think Neil was being a diva about it all.

Maybe, but there’s also a way that you should treat people, and players. Especially ones that have battled and bled for the team for 1000 games, while the coach just showed up.

Neiler talked more about how he was treated, and the lack of communication more than the actual benching. Like a lot of things, this type of behaviour is often what separates people.

The talk at the time was that Boucher lost the room I think, and I don’t think players like playing his boring ass system. I know I didn’t like watching it. Jacque had is playing a pretty boring trap system as well. It was effective, but painful to watch as a fan.

It all depends who you ask. Bobby was recently asked if Guy lost the room and he said that wasn't the case. In his words no coach ever had a better pulse on the room. I'm with you that how you treat people matters but also to an extent these things are subjective. People have differing ideas of respect. Personally, I just liked who Guy was in the media. Seemed like a smart guy to me. Of course there were times I questioned his decisions.

Agreed.

I didn’t like the play style much, but don’t know much about him personality-wise other than he was smart and sounded smart.

The Neiler stuff was one man’s opinion shared for sure.

Agree about Neil being a diva about it all towards the end. With all due respect to him, for what he tries to represent (a team first role player that would do ANYTHING for his team), he didn't age gracefully and morph into a "specialist" type black-ace kind of role. His ego got in the way.

Still love him and what he did for us. But he was clearly not happy without a permanent spot in the lineup every game, even though he was already multiple hundreds of games past the point of being blessed to have made it that far with his talent......

Disagree with this. Kelly played in game 7 and was on the ice for like 4 minutes. Neil deserved to play and he was still effective.

Fair enough, but I'd suspect you're in a minority here. This is professional sports. Winning is what every team is trying to do. There are no style points in the standings column.
The teams sole goal is winning but as a fan I want to be entertained.

We aren't playing meaningful games going forward

pretty much agree with you. Last season, after 33 games played, Ottawa had 7 fewer points, than they do this season…. So a little improvement, but not enough to think they’re going to contend for a WC spot.

There is no question Neil turned that NY series in our favor. No one ever heard of Tanner Glass again lol. But Neil's time was coming to an end and we had better options for most nights. I kinda think Neil was being a diva about it all.
Was at that game…. Hell of a finish

7 points? Giroux, Talbot and Debrincat are 7 points? What is that 15m in Cap space? What?
