What NyQuil described also happens but is just poor play on our end. Bad read. Lost battle. Bad zone clears. Young player mistakes.

It has to be cleaned up.

It's the fundamental difference between teams like Buffalo and Ottawa as compared with New Jersey, who had similar metrics last year but were sunk by abysmal goaltending.

This right here.... it's amazing to me the things that get expressed here, repeated, over and over, and accepted as fact.

4th in odd man rushes differential. Yet I read here that we lack creativity and simply dump and chase and that our down low forecheck causes odd man rushes the other way.
Its the most absurd concept I have read yet in regards to blaming things on DJ. Thats what I hear about the Debrincat defenders. 'If DJ had a good system he would score more'. No if he scored on all his open looks he would score more. DJ cant score for these guys. Him and Drake missed a TON of chances this year. I think it gets better for sure next season. Maybe less fancy shots and shoot for a rebound would result in better results. They both love going high.

Isn't the criticism that our wingers leave the defensive zone too early?

That stat would seem to corroborate that.

More odd-man rushes, but more defensive zone turnovers that lead to goals against.
Its total differential. The players blowing the zone rarely doesnt work. It pulls the D man out of it they arent doing it and leaving everyone high and dry.

I’d be interested in seeing a new poll, I wonder if sentiment has changed at all since whenever this was originally put out.

I'm surprised the poll is that one sided

Based on the replies, you would think he's the most beloved coach in Franchise history

The key to win more games is to limit defensive zone time, shots on goal and to increase an offensive zone time. Actually practising cycling, as any other teams do. Active forechecking 200 feet. I noticed that Sens always have a hard time to stop the cycle and failing to get the puck out of their own zone. Players have to be accountable and know how to defend against the cycle and not to box it. Skating, coverages, blocking shots is a key and not playing as you are one player short.

A better coach wins you more 5 to 7 games. It is at least 10 more points. It is so frustrating to see with such a roster a mediocre coach.

DJ was just sticking to the management plan if not making the playoffs

Trading all your picks planning not to make the playoffs is a bold move cotton. Let's see how it plays out for them.

Let’s see what they say - but not having a goalie when you want to be a playoff team isn’t good. Dorion had tired 2 starters in the last 2 years and so far, air balls

We also need to remember, that nearly a quarter of the teams in the league were actively tanking this year. Not just for Bedard, but also for a stacked top 10 in the draft this summer.

We won't have that luxury of waltzing past some of those teams next season.

I do not, in any conceivable reality, foresee DJ returning next year.

Just no way.
I don't see Dorion firing him, and Dorion's job is likely tied to the timing of the sale, the more the sale drags on the more likely Dorion is to get another year. If the sale drags on into late Aug or Sept, Dorion probably lingers around.

Oh man this place is going to be hilarious if the new ownership like the work PD has done and endorse his work by keeping him on.

Stay tuned…
Sale won't be completed till after the draft, a lot can happen between now and then...

I mean, nobody thought we'd be able to dump Murray, add DeBrincat and add Giroux last offseason, if he somehow does something like:

Hires Sullivan after he gets canned by the pens
Signs DeBrincat with term for under 8 mil,
flips Forsberg in a series of moves for Swayman
Signs Formenton
Dumps Joseph for cap space

I think people would be willing to give him another chance.

I'll mail that mofo a gift basket of gourmet cheese if he pulls that off.

I guess what I'm getting at is people are focused on what you've done lately, and right now lately is missed the playoffs.

If he resolves a bunch of perceived issues, then the rush to send him packing is gone

He's in a tough spot to evaluate, his first 6 years were clearly constrained by Melnyk, and this year by a pending sale, there's always been artificial limitations on what he can and can't do.

I'm not saying he's been without fault, I have plenty of gripes with the choices he's made, but I do think his work needs to be evaluated with the constraints in mind, and if he sets things up nicely for next year and the future, maybe a 1yr trial run under new ownership isn't the worst think that could happen.
