It’s soon over for DJ

I thought DJ would be able to keep the room, which was all that’s “necessary” to close out the season, but this latest streak seems to be breaking the camels back.

I hope they think king and hard about promoting Mann and maybe bringing a young up and comer or two - guys who haven’t yet “earned” jobs - for auditions in support roles. See if you can identify guys for the future

Ya, that guy is posting British tabloid level stuff there. This was about what was going on after the misconduct and the yapping on the ice

Can someone tell me why Stu is listed as a left winger on NHL site?
Cuz He is 38th in points per game all players but would be 16th among Centermen
At 21 yo it's really good (just a notch under Hughes who is on a much better team)
Star in the making

Lalime's Martian gets zero respect from me, I wasn't able to watch last night so I have no clue as to context. But I do think its safe to assume that the frustration is as high as it has ever been, DJ is probably losing his cool a bit, and the players are probably losing their cool a bit. There is no way anyone feels good or happy right now, and that's a dangerous thing.

He has been on the “Fire DJ” train for some time, but making up stuff fits in well with his persona. Add him to the list of wannabes and his “taking it to the streets “ posting gossip schtick, bla bla bla. The only guys who are good on Twitter are Mendes and a few others. Jack Richardson is quite balanced, I like him. All these “Everyday Sens” dorks, the Locked on Sens guys are great other than the horrific karma of laughing at Murray and then watching Talbot turn into…Murray. I believe in the hockey gods lol

And this is with a dog shit roster and a defence possibly worse than ours.

Why would dj be talking to someone on the ice like that. And why would stutzle be shaking his head and muttering under his breath if it’s someone on the ice? He should be on his feet.

New ownership and a new coach cannot come quickly enough.

Still think Troy Mann deserves a chance here, and if DJ gets canned soon then he would be my choice to ride out the rest of the year with.

Keefe (if he doesn’t make it past the first round again I think he’s gone) and Boudreau would be nice candidates as well.

Yeah, I lost some respect for that poster. Stützle was obviously cursing at the ref and not DJ.

That kid is a wellspring of embarrassingly bad takes and toxicity. Same one who unceremoniously paraded around the idea of an imminent Zaitsev trade because he caught a glimpse of a for sale sign while mommy was driving him home after a Sens game

Just a few days ago DJ was making changes within the top 6 .. saying they need to score more to take care of the minuses .. so in other words score their way out of their woes. Now he wants to change it up again and focus on checking which is a DJ way of saying defending I think. Not sure. But a focus to cutting your goals against should never be an after thought if you want to win..

His low hanging fruit move is to switch Joseph and Batherson.
I am not sure what else he'll do on that front .. Move DeBrincat down for Kelly doesn't seem reasonable. Watson for Giroux? laughable.

Now does he play the same system expecting one or two changes to make a big difference. Does he tweak the undisciplined all out forecheck to more of a 2-1-2 keeping one man high and rotating ?

It just seems to me that DJ has gone too long to focus at all on goals against vs goals for.. Believing the the XGFs could turn into GFs. Every playoff team will be able to defend and make adjustments to defend .. This team makes zero adjustments. Its peddle to the metal dump , forecheck , hope to score , or draw a penalty. The Dzone from a defenseman perspective is at least partially personnel... The forwards playing with attention to detail and responsible positionally with out the puck does not change by switching a couple of wingers around. The detail you want you need to describe in detail through all three zones. Players want to know , and need to know specifics of their responsibilities . To hold them accountable or at least tell them where they broke down they need to know what you want first. There are a lot of details missing. Check hard doesn't do it. Track hard doesn't do it. Hopefully its a step in the right direction for them but my confidence level in making changes making a difference is pretty low.

Which is why I don’t want management to get duped again. They finish strong, but will management think it is the coach getting through to the kids and they are playing the right way? I just don’t want anymore half assed things. New management, new ownership, new voice will be here by August, guaranteed. And they will have the money for any coach out there
Zero arguments from me. Needs to be a cleaned house from management down save a few guys.

Defo gonna be seeing the results of not addressing the coaching//personel on d issues at the gate. Ottawa fans are sick of watching a never ending rebuild.
Team wont have to worry about being booed when the stands are empty. Literally devaluing the team in real time as new owners are circling.
Oy.

Boudreau is pushing 70 and must be drained after all the nonsense going on in Vancouver. I’d be shocked if he doesn’t retire.

Keefe is one of my favourite coaches in the league, if we could somehow snag him I’d be thrilled.

I expect a lot of push back on this but. Fire DJ and hire Boucher or Jacques Martin to finish just this year. Get him to teach them a neutral zone trap counter system... that system in itself will help the goals against results .. but it will also teach these kids something else that they can have in their tool box to adapt to different ways to be successful .
I agree with what you are trying to accomplish by hiring either of those two coaches (my preference is Martin). The timing is likely off due to the impending sale but the team needs someone to implement defensive discipline, or system, or whatever is lacking.

I'm not technically knowlegeable enough to diagnose specifically what is wrong. To some degree their problems in their own end might be lack of skill but I doubt that explains all of the trouble.

Yes there’s the well documented playoff failures, but we haven’t even come close to sniffing the post-season with this core so I can’t see why that matters.

He’s a phenomenal regular season coach. His team’s defensive numbers are always superb even though their D core is nothing special. Earlier in the season their entire top 4 was injured and they managed to get by fine for a month with 3 pairs of scrubs.

He understands the modern game better than most and has proven capable of motivating his players.

If you’re looking for tangible results, his winning% at every level he’s coached is ridiculous. I believe the playoff chokes are more on that players than him, their core players seem to be very weak mentally (especially Marner).

I don't expect a coaching change. DJs owed another year so .. that decision likely gets left to the new owners.

I was against getting Boudreau cuz I want a coach that can help defense, but at this point, I'll take Boudreau who should be able to get us scoring without needing a PP. Keeping DJ this long is just going to cost Dorion his job faster the minute we get new ownership

You're right; we should definitely keep DJ until the new owners arrive.

I agree it will be left to new owners. Interesting that you don't expect a change. I blame Dorion more than Smith for the team's record over the past couple of years but I expect both, and more, to be gone. Date of the sale, coaching/GM/ Scout options, etc. will play a role in the timing. I'll be surprised if DJ is around to start next season. We'll see. You could well be right.

Boudreau is 68, but has pointedly said that he would like to keep coaching. Funny enough, I think the way he was treated in Vancouver will see him get another chance somewhere as an interim, either this year or next.

DJ isn't going anywhere for now. For better or for worse, everything is on hold during the sale. He will be done, along with Dorion, on the day after the regular season concludes, but unfortunately we have another ten weeks or so of misery to endure before then...

DJ would be owed one year. Dorion has two years after this one. Both of them, though, would be amongst the lowest paid in the league, so for a new owner paying them out is a rounding error...
