You know, it's going to be one hell of a lot of work for the next coaching staff to break these guys of all their bad habits, and instill a more workmanlike culture on the team.

I'm not expecting much of a turnaround with a new coach. Not for awhile, anyways.
Absolutely .. most of these kids only know DJ's "Hard" .. not very technical systems.

I find there's often an immediate turnaround which isn't always sustainable.

Everyone talks about accountability and a new team culture and they win a bunch of games.

But there's this underlying pessimism that it's the new shiny toy syndrome until it sticks for awhile.

Yes, the new coach effect. Same thing often happens after a big trade. Shakeups have everyone on their toes for a while before the old habits creep back into their game.

I expect a lot of push back on this but. Fire DJ and hire Boucher or Jacques Martin to finish just this year. Get him to teach them a neutral zone trap counter system... that system in itself will help the goals against results .. but it will also teach these kids something else that they can have in their tool box to adapt to different ways to be successful .

Yup Chabot and Brady have pretty much played their whole career without any structure and systems they will have to get back into the habits of actual systematic play.

It’s better to get a new coach in this season so they can start right next year but ownership change likely makes that impossible

Not really sold on the "no system" trope that gets thrown around all time. I think the team just isn't that good.

Firing DJ is still something that should be done though. One of the easiest changes, and allows for this group to try and learn some new ideas from a new voice.

Seasons over, at this point just replace him with interim Cappy or keep DJ for the tank

Hopefully new ownership will open the wallet more regarding coaches

Trotz, Boudreau, AV, and Julien are available now

Will be interesting to see if any guys become available in the offseason eg: Sullivan, Berube, Keefe, Brunette etc

You best believe this team still has one random swing left before the season ends where they'll suddenly go 15-5 for no reason and completely blow our lottery position.

And that's the problem with a DJ Smith-coached team. No consistency.

Hence why its so important that we have the coaching change happen this year in a “lost season” and not at the start of next year…
I would not be for this. This team has shown the propensity to finish strong, and the last thing we need is a new coach come in, they finish strong, interim coach gets a 3 year extension, and they go 4-10-1 in November next year.

Just let it play out and do things right

They’ve done that the past 3 years with the same coach.

It’s a team thing, not all on Smith. They play hard and well with 0 pressure, finish string, get hopes up for next year, then let out a fart out of the gate

Which is why I don’t want management to get duped again. They finish strong, but will management think it is the coach getting through to the kids and they are playing the right way? I just don’t want anymore half assed things. New management, new ownership, new voice will be here by August, guaranteed. And they will have the money for any coach out there
