How was Dach getting jerked around, when he lead the forwards in TOI or ES TOI in at least some games in the round against Edmonton?

He was talking about back during the regular season. And he's not wrong. Dach's play was warranting more ice time, but JC continually gave him like 3rd line mins, or worse.

Normally I wouldn't rush to judgement after two incomplete seasons, but when you have the opportunity to hire Gallant to replace an underperforming coach you have to take it.

It's really a shame, I so wanted him to work out and I still applaud the Hawks for going young and trying something different. He's just too inexperienced at the moment.

These are my thoughts as well.

If JC could be talked into hanging around as an assistant I'd be fine with that but he needs NHL experience and Hawks can't afford to give it to him as HC at the team's expense.

That’s what makes it an easy yes for me. Firing him to hire Gallant seems like a no-brainer. It should be done today before another team grabs Gallant.

I imagine Gallant will want some type of say in the roster though, so that’s why I won’t hold my breathe on Bowman making the move.

Most here felt this was his year to show something.

He missed the playoffs, first and foremost. Given his amount of time here and body of work I don't think it's a knee jerk reaction at all to have the opinion that he needs to go.

Keep JC would be equivalent to Theo keeping Renteria when Joe Maddon unexpectedly became available...Hire Gallant or Lavi and call it a day...They need to upgrade when the opportunity is there because most years the options are not very exciting

I highly doubt he'd be willing to take a demotion, and hang around as an assistant.

He doesn't do anything well, except supposedly communicate with the group well, but yet, we have examples of that not happening (Seabrook issue, and another one that I can't recall off the top of my head).

He puts the line blender in full gear, even when the lines are clicking. (Why break up the Kubalik/Saad/Toews line?), he isn't a great line matching coach, he switched the system from a successful EDM series, to a more defensive structure, when the team isn't a defensive team, and he doesn't get the most out of his players. People say he is good with young players.....who? I feel like Dach did most of his maturing himself, Nylander still sucks, Boqvist didn't get better, Debrincat and Strome regressed hard. Koekkoek progressed, and Kubalik came around, but who else?

I don't see much upside here, I'm OK with giving him another year I guess, but I'd prefer Gallant.

Nobody else will hire him as a HC right now. He’s going to be an assistant no matter where he goes. But ya, probably doesn’t want to do the demotion inside the same organization

That point about the core being untradeable and needing to find a coach that will gel with them is interesting (and pretty f***ing sobering). If they tuned out Quenneville after everything they had been through, who could they possibly bring in that they would respect? Marian Hossa?

Zach Smith had some issues with JC during the season iirc regarding scratches but apparently they talked it over and it was fine

I agree with most of the above but I did like the effort by Cat in the last few games and Strome was a bit better than earlier in this postseason.

As for the defensive hockey employed: JC was right in his thinking - just doesn't have the personnel to execute it. If Hawks had tried to play wide-open hockey I reckon they would have been blown out. VGN can play any way the ops team wants to play.

Would even take Bruce Boudreau at this point...This core needs a vet coach with a track record...

Yes, Cat and Strome looked better in this past series, but during the season was what I was referring to.

And I agree he was right in thinking that's the best way to beat Vegas, but he should know that this team isn't going to win playing that style of hockey. I don't think they would have been blown out, it's not like Lehner was playing his best hockey.

So why did Gallant get fired in Vegas? And no disrespect to Gallant because even the best coaches get fired. I just think that people are expecting miracles from coaching that are not possible with an imperfect roster.
