I'd also like to give kudos to Czech fans and media for good sportsmanship. I don't remember even one single time when after a win from Czechia someone would have whined about how reffing was garbage and they should have won. They always respect the result and aim their critique at their own team, and even there the hot takes are rare - no one is calling for coaches heads on a silver platter. (Of course exceptions exist, but the point is that they must be rare because I don't remember any.)

We Finns in general have a tendency to be sore losers and complain every time we lose a one-goal game. And if we lose 5-1 we are out for blood.

Well, what a disappointment. It’s always heartbreaking to lose by such a small margin, but we have to admit that overall our opponents were better on the day and deserved their win, so congratulations to Finland!

Tell me, how is possible that Finland significantly better coaches then Sweden? I mean at the national team.
What is the finnish federation doing differently than the swedish one? I don't understand and I have no idea why. It's frustrating.

I think it's more about Sweden screwing things up now. I'm sure that their country has better coaches than they recently have put as their national team head coaches. Since Richard Grönborg (sorry for my spelling) they haven't had good ones. If that's not a lucrative position to be in for Swedish coaches, they they simply have to pay them more money or they should hire a Finnish coach lol. I think that Finnish coaches have been underrated for a long time.

I would never in a million years want Jalonen to coach a best on best finnish team. Sure, he gets the most of a lackluster squad but come on, Finland has gone a long way since, a decade and the young offensive skill is very impressive. Another coach would do MUCH better

Then who do you put in place of Jukka Jalonen for the Olympics? Players would love to play under J.Jalonen now in the Olympics. Many have played succesful tournaments under him now.

That team was already a part of the "lost generation" of 1985-1991, but it had Tuukka Rask, who practically dragged Finland to that medal all by himself.

I remember the Tuukka Rask heroics very well. Tuomo Ruutu might have been there as well. CBA to confirm it.

Just ridiculous statement from that guy. What makes that statement even more ridiculous is the fact that the core of that future olympic roster won gold under Jalonen in 2016 WJC. Aho, Laine, Rantanen, Hintz, Kapanen all played under Jalonen and it was goal scoring frenzy.

It's been 11 years since Vancouver, Jalonen is a different coach now (even then they won bronze). We have the best roster of all time available for the olympics and we need the best coach for the task. Our core is so young, that pretty much everyone of them have developed under Jalonen/Vierumäki system and they know it very well.

Indeed and after the Olympics' Marjamäki fiasco we deserve the best coach for the Olympics that we can have and it's Jukka Jalonen. We need to have Pennanen there as the assistant coach along with some others. Maybe add Jussi Ahokas there as an assistant coach as well. Not to forget Manner who has been there in 2019 and 2021. He seems to be a good assistant coach for Jalonen.

Yeah that would be coaching staff from heaven pretty much. Also everyone loves Selänne, Timonen and these legends but i think they should stay as commentators and not be "part of the staff" like they were in World Cup.

I doubt that there's anything they can give to players like Heiskanen and Barkov who are already superstar players, just let coaching staff do their work.

I'm not so sure that those guys are even suitable as studio guys or commentators :).

I'm going off topic now but I have to give a special mention to Sami Kapanen who is a very dull and gringy in his current role as a studio guy or rink side what ever analyst that he is. I might be alone with this opinion though.

Discovery with Niklas Hagman in the studio, only because he did dancing with the stars Finland is ridiculous. They want the female viewers in or something. Hagman better not be there during the Olympics.

I don't know how he is doing in this WHC, but atleast in the Liiga playoffs i found Kapanen to be the best analyst by far. Smart guy who knows about hockey. Is his role different in the Discovery broadcasts?

Kapanen is on the C more & MTV3 team and Hagman on Discovery. They are prob not the same thing. WHC rights are on C more & MTV3 and Olympics, U20 & EHT on Discovery.

I'd take almost any former top player or a coach instead of Kapanen in that role. He usually says the basic and boring stuff and hockey jargon and I can't stand it. Then he sometimes tries too hard producing his own opinions and it's often something stupid. I don't think that the guy is fit for the job for WHC at least. He doesn't seem natural for it, instead he seems ackward. That's just my opinion.

Ahh yeah, i see. Mostly i was just surprised to hear that you found Kapanen dull and cringy, since i thought he was a great analyst for Liiga broadcasts :P

Yeah maybe my opinion differs from the majority in that thing. I was just interested if anyone feels that way as well. I remember Mika Kortelainen being great at that job in the past. I also liked Riku Hahl and even Oskar Osala in that job more than Kapanen.

Ex-players with high spirit are good for that job in my opinion or coaches with vast experience. I don't think that Kapanen is either. He didn't coach for that long and I always got the impression that he is more of a quiet leader in the locker room than high spirit guy like Kukkonen for example was.

I donno. They all are from the same mold more or less what comes to the "subject matter"/substance and that's what hockey people mold is and what other hockey people wait for coming out from the mouths of these "color guys" w/e analysts/commentators. Basic jargon. Okay, some might have more capacity to quickly slice it to The hungry audience and add some spicy extras on The top of that. But that boils down to personality attributes. Charisma, humour and style...

Some like Ville Nieminen, some Ismo Lehikoinen and so on. Some are objevtively dull though. Some people just are. Good at being dull. Yet it's not their fault. Blame the system.

Ruutu's birth year is 1983, so he was nowhere near that team. But he was part of a very good crop - the last good one we had before the "lost years" - that won silver in 2001, and two bronzes in 2002 and 2003. It featured names like Mikko Koivu, Jussi Jokinen, Joni Pitkänen, Sean Bergenheim, Jarkko Immonen, Kim Hirschovits... Though I understand why you might have mixed some things up, as the goalie wasn't half bad either: Kari Lehtonen.

Yep yep. I wrote it pretty quickly that time without any brain power :).

4 straight games with blatant stupid penalties...

Crosscheck to the face in front of a ref
Crosschek to the back in front of a ref
today he passed it to a Finn for a 2 on 0 and then pulled that guy down

We live and die by Klok.

Seems legit. He was TOP2 defender in his Liiga team that was just dominating. Lots of short passing and skating, fast thinking. He manageded it excellent, but every now and then under pressure Klok gave some very bad pass to in front of own net. I don't remember lots of weak penalties.

That said, great defender, good KHL-level.
