I'd disagree with that. I would take a guy who has proven he can score at that level over potential, if they are at roughly the same level in club play this year.

Knowing the way the Finland program works they are very detailed and meticulous in the process of development and evaluation; from the perspective of what is best for the player and the team.

Their record for getting the most out of limited resources - both at the junior level and with the men's team is impressive.

If Puistola was left off the roster in favor of other players there was a lot of data and analysis that went into the decision.

I'm still not convinced that there isn't something more there. A disciplinary issue, the player turning down the invitation, something.

On the contrary, you would hope a returnee would be better than "middle of the pack". If that's the case, the newer player would be a better option since you would think there would be the potential for improvement.
It all depends on what the country's priority is. If the goal is to win now, the vast majority of the time a country should go with players who have a proven track record of success at these types of events (assuming similar club stats). Maybe if a team is set on developing talent for a future year, they should bring in younger talent and give them a shot... Slovakia being the prime example of that for this year's tournament.

Räty case is pretty amazing I’ve had Corona and my lungs are still not good eventhough Im in pretty good shape and pretty young. His problems started last year and therr may be some serious problems or maybe few little things adding up on each other. He has the skills to become star player in the NHL but things must go forward.
I trust Pennanen but the problem will be there if few of our skill guys or centers have injuries or get the disease. Too much grit is too much for this tournament I think we should have more centers than 5.

Team looks very good! I'm very confident that we are going far on this tournament/even all the way. I'd see Russia as our biggest challenge/maybe Sweden also.

Canada’s 4th line is better than most teams 1st line. This has been a very good group for Canada, at the u18s for example. Some are calling this the deepest Canadian team since the 2005 lockout which was the best WJC team ever assembled.

if Canada gets goaltending they are going to destroy other teams in this tournament

I thought Antti Tuomisto was a lock? Did he choose to go to school instead of the camp?

I think he would have at least been a camp invitee, but probably due to corona he was not called. He was in States the whole Autumn and maybe it would have been a bit difficult to call him to Finland for camp and have him go through the quarantine process. I definitely would like him on the team. He would have brought something that the team is currently lacking.

I agree Finland has made a lot of questionable cuts, but Aaltonen is not one of them. Guy has zero hockey IQ...and I’m a Rangers fan disappointed with our pick.

Tell me what those questionable cuts are.
I don't know what a hell you have done last months
but clearly you haven't put any attention on that how much Puistola and Räty
have struggled and regressed with their games and scoring this season.

There are clear reasons why Puistola and Aatu Räty are out of U20 WJC's.
Räty's stock and draft ranking is dropping like a rock
and he's regressed with his game over a year almost.

And yes Aatu Räty hasn't showed ABSOLUTELY NOTHING
why he should be 1st overall in 2021 draft.

If your country has afford to keep some freaking charity social hockey
and take two players in the team who have regressed and struggled
like Puistola and Räty then so be it
but guess what Finland doesn't need to have that.

Every guy who's made Finland's U20 WJC roster has earned it.
Puistola and Aatu Räty are right there ( watching U20 WJC's in their homes )
where they belong right now.

And just an notice.
Even Goran Stubb has publicly said that Aatu Räty
can forget being 1st overall 2021 that's not gonna happen.

Tuomisto and Puhakka are bigger misses. I’d have Puistola on the team as well. I wouldn’t have Raty.
