Filip Zadina is one of the biggest draft busts in NHL history.

Compared to the “biggest in NHL history”? No he’s definitely not.

Also the Wings aren’t really rebuilding anymore. They’re trying to compete for a playoff spot.

Although the Bert injury and Vrana leave we are likely in trouble.
Some other 6th overall picks from years prior to Zadina:

Cody Glass
Pavel Zacha
Jake Virtanen
Hampus Lindholm
Brett Connoly
Nikita Filatov
Gilbert Brule
Al Montoya
Zadina is easily the worst.

I'm a Wings fan but don't really follow prospects and drafts and whatnot. What was surprising to me is people seemed to be talking about his shot and being a "pure scorer" when that is one of the weakest parts of his game.

He can carry the puck through traffic reasonably well but his shot selection and decision making in regards to scoring is poor.
Watched him a lot in junior and it was elite against that competition but he can’t get his shot off fast enough in the NHL to be remotely effective. If he does manage to get it off quick enough it’s usually because he panicked and never even looked at the net and just shoots it into the goalies chest

Premature. He's just 22 and has been an NHL regular for a while. There have been guys older than he who broke out big.

I don't think he'll be a star, but stranger things have happened.

Calling him a bust is aggressive.

Filip Zadina, who went 6th overall in 2018 is one of the biggest draft busts in NHL history.
He was a consensus top 3 pick going into the draft, fell to 6th where he left 3 different fanbases questioning why their teams didn’t select him and now, heading into his 5th professional season, has been a healthy scratch for all but one game.
What a fall from grace this player has seen, he didn’t even fill Montreal or Ottawa’s nets with pucks like promised.

he was taken 6th overall--there is a very LONG list of top 5 picks that shit the bed bigger than him

Barrett Hayton was taken one spot before him and has done a lot less in the NHL then Z. So Z is not even the biggest bust from his draft year

It's funny because if you watched that Chicago vs Detroit game, you would have noticed that Zadina was buzzing all night and looked good. But then you look at the scoresheet, and zeros again.

He doesn't look out of place in the NHL at all, and creates chances, he just never hits the scoresheet. He is clearly lacking in hockey sense.

He isn't even close to biggest busts of all-time. He isn't a 1st overall guy failing.
As someone said, you have players who don't live up to their draft standing every year and every year in the first round.

Daigle was an NHL player for many seasons. Maybe you're joking?
He is considered the biggest bust due to being 1st overall and before who he was drafted. I never really agreed him being a BUST. Biggest bust of all-time is Patrik Stefan and right after him it's Nail Yakupov IMO.

He had a breakaway chance to put his team back up by two in the 3rd period tonight against the Blackhawks. He couldn't even beat Alex Stalock.

I'm done with him. No idea why Yzerman thought it fit to re-sign him for three years.

I don't really care since he's not on my team but the kid is 22 and has been playing on a crappy team. He did alright for the Czechs internationally and im pretty sure we'll see some positive development over the next 2-3 years or so. Patience

Nah definitely worse ones for all time.

Olli Juolevi at 5OA (one ahead of Tkachuk) is a more prominent bust in recent memory. On his fourth organization already and yet to hold a regular NHL position.

There have other players including Zadina picked higher that have disappointed relative to position but wouldn’t be called outright busts imo.
