Why didnt Detroit just select Quinn Hughes instead? Would have been a better pick in my opinion as he is a far superior hockey player

He’s a bust but I have it say, he looked really dangerous against Detroit the other day. Actually couldve scored a few times, one time I saw the play unfolding, he was all alone with a great scoring chance. But as is the story of his career, he failed to score.

Same reason the Canucks didn’t pick Tkachuk?

I think most everyone thought his floor would be that of a powerplay sniper,,similar to his team mate, Mike Hoffman in his salad days.

It is surprising he is this bad.. But hey , look at Trevor Zegras. Cover of EA to irrelevance.

Something that baffles me from the 2018 draft class is how absolutely mediocre the forwards have been, yet every defenseman has either been incredibly good, solid, or has been able to play in the NHL.

Being a young lad trying to take advantage of a second chance and you end up in San Jose is pretty shit for a fair shot at redemption for his career.

Technically he's doing better than last season. So improvement there. The Sharks and their "we're not tanking, but we totally are" tank is probably not ideal for younger players. I feel bad for blokes like him and Addison. There's two players that are producing fairly decent - two veterans Hertl and Granlund. They've been without Couture and a proper roster since the start of the season.

I think he could still turn it around. I held out hope for Daniel Sprong to, while my fellow Pens fans loved to shit all over him, I knew he was screwed over and had a rough go with trying to find his game with Anaheim and Washington. It took him to being on an expansion team to finally breakout and he's on a 50+ pace this season.

To be petty about an ex prospect is weird to me. Sharks are legit awful, two 10+ losing streaks in a single season this early is embarrassing for the league. Benning might be the luckiest shark. He doesn't have to play for the rest of the season.

I think it's less so COVID and more so the '99 and '00 birth years being an uncharacteristically bad two year stretch in Canada particularly, which is always the number 1 producer of NHL talent.

During the 04-05 lock out these kids would have just started to understand sports.... Then the 12-13 lockout was when a lot of kids commit to sports.

Would not surprise me if Canada had a couple talents that walked away from hockey due to lockouts.

The pandemic shortened season and shutdown of youth hockey as well could be something that inflated some overage players stat line and might have had others just walk away completely. Who knows.

People have always been overly petty about Zadina. Everyone holds a grudge because he once made the cardinal sin of making an ambitious statement as a teenager who just got drafted in the 1st round of the NHL. What a fool am I right.

These same haters have said something similar in situations and felt it was being confident or something but want to chastise a player for believing in his abilities and then when he struggles they have a sick enjoyment out of it. Like why?

I've never felt a Pens prospect that didn't work out should suck and hopefully never makes it. I don't like the Wings but I'm glad to see Sprong thriving even more. Same for Blueger and Lafferty in Vancouver. This need to be satisfied to see a prospect failed because of some twisted ideation of "this is my team, he didn't fit the development of my team, he didn't help my team." They don't own shit.

Many moons ago, we had Naslund and I was pissed the Pens traded him, yet I was never mad that Naslund blew up like he did because like I said, I was a fan. I was angry that the Pens gave up on him to follow some idiotic size queen trend. But if Naslund had failed? Zero enjoyment out of it really. Feels messed up to actively feel good about someone that has worked hard to be drafted and see them fail at their life's goal.

at least if this whole Hockey thing doesn't work out he could take up a career in sales

still managing to live rent free in peoples heads just from a single comment more than 5 years ago

He shot his mouth off prior to stepping on the ice for a single game, and has accomplished f*** all since. What do you expect?

"living rent free" is the most annoying new era term people use.

I haven't even thought of Zadina in almost 3 years, and barely gave him any thought prior.

Honestly glad the Nucks didnt pick Tkachuk. We wouldve been too good to get Petey and Hughes in the subsequent drafts if we did.

Why did almost every draft analyst and scout have Zadina ranked over Hughes if it was that simple?

Pre Draft rankings:

TSN-McKenzie: Zadina - 4, Hughes - 8
McKeens: Zadina-3, Hughes-6
Dobber (Cam Robinson): Hughes-3, Zadina-4
Dobber (Peter Harling): Zadina-3, Hughes-8
Hockey Prospect: Zadina-4, Hughes-9
TSN Button: Zadina-3, Hughes - 6
THW: Zadina-3, Hughes-8
ISS: Zadina -3, Hughes-7
Pronman: Zadina-3, Hughes-5
Wheeler: Zadina-3, Hughes-4
Canucks Army (Jeremy Davis): Zadina-2, Hughes-4
NHL Central Scouting NA: Zadina-3, Hughes-6
etc...
