He shot his mouth off prior to stepping on the ice for a single game, and has accomplished f*** all since. What do you expect?
I am no fan of Zadina, but you are being ridiculous here. He was a teenager, a foreigner who didn't speak english as a native language, and who arrived in a hockey culture that idolized confidence and a "winner attitude". It's beyond my comprehension that people are ready to ignore all this just to shit on a struggling hockey player. Did he run away with your gf or what?

Except as I posted a few posts up, nearly every scouting organization and draft analyst had Zadina ranked higher than Hughes. If Holland had reached for a lesser rated player over Hughes, then you might have a valid argument.
For sure man . But lol you deal with hollands bs for so many years while he’s touted as the best GM and it tends to make ya hateful lol hell the rational side of me knows much of his decision making was based on Mr illitch wanting to keep the playoff streak alive .. but lol I can only be rational for so long !

Why didnt Detroit just select Quinn Hughes instead? Would have been a better pick in my opinion as he is a far superior hockey player

Zadina was a pretty consensus top 3 pick. Hughes was more in the 6-10 range. You can’t look at it with current knowledge. The same thing happened to Edmonton in 2016 when the consensus top 3 player dropped to us and we ended up with Pulju instead of Sergachev. Hindsight you let Pulju keep dropping, but you don’t know that at the time

Yeah, the guy who picked Moritz Seider at #6 probably wouldn't go off-book if he had the chance to make that pick.

He very well might have, but it seems silly to knock a GM for taking a guy that was ranked by pretty much everyone over the other guy.

I'd say top 4. Him and Brady Tkachuk were pretty interchangeable. For example, Brady was #3 for Bob (generally considered the best list at predicting the draft) and for HockeyProspect.com who in my opinion have the best draft related product.

But, I will say, NHL teams should be better scouts than any public list. Their resources far outweigh the public scouting community and Central Scouting. Drafting a player because the public has him above another guy is just sloppy work, and indicates playing it safe. Like, Puljujarvi was ahead of PLD on every single list, but Jarmo made the right call. Now, on the opposite side of this you have Juolevi over Matthew Tkachuk, where Benning went against the public and it was disastrous.

That 'filling nets with pucks' comment sure struck a lot of posters hard!lol They'll be 70 and typing on here about it.

It's a low bar but his career high is 24 points and he may get to 25!

It's a shame he didn't pan out.. Czech hockey could've really used him! Everything was going so well till it wasn't. I was positive he'd be a very good NHL player today. I was wrong.

Yep. Most drafts have an absolute steal in the 3rd round and the best so far from 2018 has been Dostal. Additionally, the CHLers from this draft were entering the A during the pandemic. Pandemic affected pro development for all of these guys, but the draft wasn't looking special regardless.
Yeah and looking at the second round it’s not much better. You have some solid players like Durzy, Marchenko, Fehervary, Drury, McLeod, and Romanov but nobody who is elite or a franchise player. Some really great players in the first half of the first round and a bunch of meh after that.
