Is there a reason we are looking at his past play when nothing matters but his current play.
He has not yet found a way to be consistent or even available in Pro hockey
I'm not sure what reasoning there could possibly be to try and foist that off on someone or something else.
The players are all judged using the same standards the simple truth is the good ones find a way.

Most teams miss on late first rounders.. I think people would be surprised if they look at just how bad Tampa Bay was in the first round and most people universally acclaimed their scouting department.
My point exactly. The same posters that complain about missing picks are usually the same ones who want our scouting team to ''swing for the fences''. You just can't have it both ways. I don't think the Mesar pick was a bad one on draft day but unfortunately he hasn't developped as we hoped.

He was a great swing and he's had some highs and some lows. We aren't reliant on the dude for our rebuild to be a success, so give him his AHL time and see where he is.

Should taken a Ryan Chesley instead of Mesar. Would add to our depth on right D starting next season. Plus gives us another pick for a center at this draft. Pretty sure one if not both our firsts will be right D

This team actually had Mesar ahead of Hutson.

And Tampa Bay had Koekkoek ahead of Vasilevskiy and Namestnikov ahead of Kucherov.

Detroit took 6 players ahead of Datsyuk.

All that matters is the Habs took Hutson, where they projected him to be, and got to take a shot at Mesar and grabbed Beck in the process.

What a bad pick. You can’t hit homerun on all first rounder but never liked him. Terrible production in juniors, always his teamates fault (according to one poster here) and now injuries, lmfao.

It's funny because for some players, bad teammates is a completely reasonable and acceptable excuse.

You don't know what you're talking about, so out of touch with what happend in juniors. "terrible production" lol. ok

Well he's right, being 30 ish in ppg in the OHL for a 1st rounder is pretty average for a 19 years old. He was good at the WJC but outside of that tournament he was meh.

Mesar is a wasted pick, like it or not.

The uphill battle for Mesar to make the NHL gets even steeper with these injuries. There's still runway there, but the progression is anything but encouraging.

I didn't mind the pick at the time - high upside, high risk type of pick. It was a swing for a smaller top 6 player with very good puck skills and offensive vision. We're not going to hit on every pick, and going for a player in the late 1st round with his profile carried with it some risk.

Pretty incredible that you stayed with that narrative but hey you would look bad if you just admit it, so I get it. Getting 1point per game for an « offensive prospect » in his D+1 and D+ 2 is really not good. But stay with your narritive bro, at least youre consistent with it.

He had 4 pts in his first game in the OHL and 3 pts in his season opener the following year.
His problem is in the head. Not the talent.
The canadiens made the right choice. Him and Beck were the best players at camp in 2022 by far.

The talent is there, we dint put him in the right environment to succeed, he wasn't able to exceed the expectations in Kitchener on the scoresheet. He did not synch with his teammates on the ice.

Second year of the OHL he was on pace for 2 PPG for like 20 straight games. In the playoffs he was the leading scorer until his team lost in the second round. He was the only consistant threat vs the much better London team.

The stats dont show you that he was creating the most chances out of all the players from Kitchener and probably in the league.

I don't want to read stat watchers tell us how he was bad based on his "production".

Now with his alleged second injury it will give him the time to develop what he needs to develop and make the proper adjustments.

We'll know next year if he's a bust or not i guess

Who cares what he did in Juniors? Roy and Farrel played in the NHL last year, where are they now?

Complaining about Mesar is beyond pathetic as we likely had the best haul out of all the teams in that draft. It is like hearing a spoiled kid cry because he can't have all the toys despite having more than anyone else.
Who's complaining about Mesar? They threw a dart and missed, that's it.

MTL still had the best draft on that year with Slafkovski Beck and Hutson.

There are MANY reasons why production is not what it should be in junior or anywhere. His junior team was disjointed and the coach was bad. In this case IMO either his teammates had a bad attitude or he did. They rarely passed to him so either they were selfish or they didn't like him.
This season his season has been derailed with injuries.

Always an excuse I guess. Anyway it's not the end of the world, no teams hit a homerun with every pick. I'm pretty sure they drafted him because he is buddy-buddy with Slaf. Coulda gone better, but it happens.
