This is perfect! He going to get lot of ice he going to produce, he will be able to work small thing while he is producing.
He will go to the WJC and ready to dominate! The years he will be in the AHL or might even finish the year in the AHL.

He's going to develop a concept of himself as ''the man.'' Same thing happened with Suzuki in the OHL, carrying Guelph to the memorial cup finals, and with Caufield winning a Hobey Baker.

It's worth considering whether Slaf may reap such benefits by having the puck on his stick 20 minutes a night in the OHL. Slaf's game it looks like will be largely based on finess and using his linemates, in addition to his shot and strength. I'd like to see him develop the finess aspect of his game.

Slaf just big bodying kids in junior wont make him a better player though. Would only make him develop bad habits IMO. AHL would be best for him.

Not sure he would just big body his peers. His game is to make plays with the puck. I could see him doing just that.

Both of Lambert and Kulich are playing well in the AHL. They are pretty much close in skill.
Ya lot of talent available late first as it turned out. I had all of Lambert, Kulich, Mesar and Hutson in my top 20. Slept on Beck but he should have been there as well. Amazing we were able to snag so many of these guys.

He already has issues with keeping his head down. Bigger players develop bad habits in junior, I’ve seen it a million times.

Slaf will big body players in the NHL when he develops that man strength.

Its a normal development curve.

Also while that may be true in corners, its not in like 85% of the ice. He can still learn a lot of things by touching the puck. Shooting angle, passing strength/speed, dangles, power moves, shot selection, etc.

It's a complete joke that people think Slaf has nothing to learn when guys like Mcdavid, Sid and Bedard got better every year in the CHL (Hint, they learned things.).

This is a legitimate concern. I saw it right away with Latendresse. He did well in his first camp, but was always already getting rocked. Then he has to retire early.

In Lats' case I always attributed his short career to 1) being rushed into the NHL and 2) coaches not properly addressing this aspect of his game.

You bring up an interesting perspective that the AHL would have been a better development path than the OHL. I say interesting because I'll consider it. But I'm not convinced just at first glance.

The other perspective is: the better you are with the puck, the more you can handle the puck without having your head down. And where's he going to learn to handle the puck more?

At any rate, he's falling a lot and just got rocked at the NHL level. Priority number one should be his development, preventing injury, including developing his ability to have his head up when he makes plays. If those things are better accomplished at the AHL or OHL, that's where he should be over the NHL, regardless of his modest secondary scoring contributions to the big club.

It depends on the player. A guy like Slaf will get better by playing with men on the small ice. NHL or AHL for him. Anywhere else and he’ll develop habits that won’t help him in the NHL that he’ll have to unlearn.

I’m curious to see what Kitchener does. Mesar and Pinelli have great chemistry together already. Problem is that Pimelli is center. If Mesar has a future at center like some fans on here suggest them the best bet is to split the two players up except for on the power play.
If both players continue to produce as a tandem, how likely might it be for the coach to split them up? If this continues, how is Mesar getting reps at center?

We are very grateful 🙏 we needed that power forward to pair with Pinelli and Rehkopf. It's great that we didn't have to trade for that type of player and risk draining the cupboard of picks. When a player like Mesar is available in the import draft, you take him.

Power forward?

This is definitely the case. Slaf won't be a guy who only can play that way in junior. Whatever he wants to do he can do against anyone. He's already in the top 1% in body weight in the NHL. Only 5 guys weigh more than him and only Hedman would be matched against him after he develops into a first liner.

It’s been a while since I’ve witnessed true humility and thankfulness in a post. Rangers? EAT IT UP!
