This will inevitably become a thread, so I will start it just out of curiosity. Nashville fans will be weighing this one all year as I am sure Poile will be. Forsberg has been a fan favorite for us, but has perhaps started to reach the end of his time in Nashville. I think Poile wants to discuss an extension with him at a reasonable rate, but I think there is valid concerns that he will try to maximize himself and outprice Poile's taste.

With the overall idea of our team being a younger movement, what is he worth as a rental? I would think a prospect and 1st would be a reasonable expectation. How many teams are in on him at this price?

Every team would be in on him at the deadline. If they retained 50% of his pro-rated 6m in late March, they could get a yuge haul.

If traded for a 1st and a prospect, what level of prospect? If the idea is him being a rental on a contending team, that 1st rounder would probably be late.

I would prefer him being traded but what AAV and term in an extension could he ask for?

the best prospect out of the ones teams are willing to give up.

He'd be the most coveted deadline target IMO.

Preds fans guessing, with him having been our best forward, he's probably looking for the same deal as Johansen/Duchene with 8x$8M. There's a lot of division on whether he's worth that contract to us (and we could fit it easily enough), let alone a more expensive one. I think Poile should definitely be at least listening to offers, as the return could be a lot more valuable to us than locking him up.

I'd like to see what Carolina and Florida would offer if anything. They know Forsberg well after last season. They have good farm systems. Both teams are looking like contenders and would be really interesting with a guy like Forsberg added to their top 6.

Neither Carolina nor Florida have a 1st for next year, so it would have to be a very good prospect coming back.

I rather use some of the Kings prospects on a top D but if he makes it to UFA I think we will make a push for him. At the deadline it will come down to costs + extension and where we are in the standings.

Didn't realize that. Good point.

You'd assume they aren't entertaining Jarvis, Lundell types either. I had thought something like Noel and a 1st was a decent start, but the lack of a 1st sucks.

Yea I imagine Canes would be interested, but with Jarvis off the table I'm not sure what NSH would be interested in... likely have to be a package deal at best

Ahhh, third time's the charm for Poile to realize those 8x8 contracts are bad then. It's sad to let go of the last wow-factor forward the team has (still sour about Arvi), but 8x8 starting at age 28 for 60-70 points...

I wouldn't automatically discount a 2023 1st vs. a 2022 one. Either way, a late 1st is probably 4 or 5 years away from making any impact, so... whether it's 4 or whether it's 5 shouldn't be a deal-breaker.

Plus with Carolina's whole volume-drafting approach they've stacked up quite a number of "interesting" prospects. If they're even interested in adding Forsberg, I'm pretty sure I could find a couple prospects to tack onto a 2023 1st that would satisfy me just as much as a 2022 1st+prospect from another team.
:dunno:

As an Avs fan I would pay a ton for Forsberg (especially if there’s an extension in place). Would something similar to the Stone trade get Nashville fans interested if Forsberg doesn’t want to re-sign?

I don't know how any of us could expect more. There won't be an extension. I can't see a scenario this is a sign and trade. Maybe a deal is struck shortly after a trade, but I feel like if we move Forsberg he is going to reach FA status.

Kings are no where close to buy a rental like him. Just make the playoffs first.

Sorry, no interest in moving him with an extension to a team we'll be playing 5 times a year unless the return is amazing.

Does anyone have a trade deadline comparable (with or without extension) that comes to mind?

Stone was already mentioned in terms of an extended Forsberg. Duchene may work for him without one. Lottery protected 1st from a bubble team and a couple interesting prospects in a shallow pool (Abramov and Davidsson). Hall was similar, albeit a couple months prior to the deadline.
