It's pure game management and it's infuriating. Winnipeg up late in the third and they don't want to call a penalty to decide the game. Guess what, them not calling one there massively impacted the outcome.
biggest problem the nhl has is nobody knows what to expect game to game, heck even period to period gets called differently

They also need to be good defensemen - I didn't say anything about what we had being the answer.
To state that what we had (as being ineffective) proves that big physical dmen won't help, isn't much of an argument.

From what I can see, the words out that the Jets crease is open for business - come one come all and set up base - because they don't have anyone that can clear that area or even attempt to.

I think its more that the m2m scheme they run pulls everyone all over the place in the dzone and due that we often don't have numbers back defending the house. Its easy to get to the front of the net when the team you are playing doesn't have bodies back defending. I think clearing the crease would be more effective with a box plus 1 scheme where you always have that box shielding your net and preventing players from getting in.

The game today the goal was on an isolated 1 on 1 battle where their player committed and infraction and got away with it.

I'm at the point now where we have seen a number of personnel changes and our defensive metrics still stink. I'm looking at the system now before I make any additional changes.

well now that they are allowing crosschecking again we might have an easier time clearing it out

also play apart in why there always seems to be so much chaos when we have a turnover

IDK - maybe there is an impact but the obvious issue appears to be our inability to move players
And don't forget the goal where they were allowed to stick handle in our crease - how do you allow that?

As for a box set up shielding your net - how does that work when we are unable to shield our net? Players are walking in and planting themselves there and our D are not stopping them.
Add the center if you want but in the end, you usually have a Dman in front that is dealing with a one on one situation in front - and we lose most of those battles.

Our blueline is small - and the majority of the small guys are more offensive (new age) dmen who do not handle traffic very well at all - I don't see how this is even debatable.

M2M is a problem - and I agree it causes a lot of movement (running around) - but 5 on 5, we should still have the guy in front covered.
Problem is the coverage is ineffective in many situations - especially with heavier forwards.
M2M can work if you have Dmen that can catch and shut down the puck carrier - if they can't, it's chaos.

We only have two offensive dmen right now though so your theory already has holes. The majority of dmen we play now fit the mold you like in Beau, Dillion, DeMelo, Stanley. Then JoMo is two-way.

I don't see an over reliance on these so called new age dmen on this team. This org has strived for balanced pairings for 3 years now.

At some point instead of continuing to change personnel you need to implement something different system wise. You don't see how a different scheme that focuses on different objectives could have different results... OK then.

Colorado has terrific defensive metrics and they rely on way more of those new age dmen.

that is exactly why m2m is bad, we failed a zone exit and scheifs man was able to get to an area where we should have had a defensemen, had we played more zone someone would have been covering that spot

yes we should have the front of the net problem, but our defensemen must follow their man all over the ice, like we often see our defensemen chasing players to the blue line

There is a reason no one else runs it to the same extent in this league, it doesn't work period.

it's funny we acquire dillon, someone who should be great at clearly the front only to have him running around chasing forwards all over the ice

Put Comrie in net next game. He's earned another start. Helle hasn't been good enough lately and we need wins.

Honestly, we don't.

We aren't going to climb this mountain. Wins only discourage Chevy from selling.

Jets had 7 power plays in that game, and I believe a 4 on 3. They have to do more with those opportunities, in my opinion.

Scored 4 PP goals in the previous game. Used em all up. Sorry.

OK - I did not say anything even close to insinuating BooBoo was the answer to our problems - where did you get that?

Dillon does fit what I am talking about - Stanley might someday (he's not playing right now - just like Ville who you didn't mention) - Demelo is our best defender but does struggle with net front - and JoMo is the best of the lot. Smitty and Pionk on the true blue offensive guys who really struggle with that.

I'm not really throwing out theories here - I'm referring to a smaller Dcore that struggles with a heavy game.
I'm looking for a blend of mobile offensive guys and more defensive minded guys with a little more physical in their game (and that doesn't mean plugs).
We don't have that.

or you know, you could allow people to still want this team to win, even if it's unlikely it's still only 6 points

Yeah, I know. But only 27 games to go and 4 teams to pass. We might make up the pts on 1, 2 or even 3. Out of 4? At least 1 is going to play as well as we do the rest of the way, even if we go on a streak.

It is just SO effing unlikely it is delusional to expect it. And Chevy just might be delusional.

It's a catch 22 -
If you have the talent that can plan m2m, why would you? They would then be better suited to zone (or a hybrid)

He does like to chase forwards - but he's effective in front too
