I can't remember which Canadian got called for cross checking in OT (also not a cross check), but that's a play that should definitely be allowed no matter the stakes. The US girl sticks her head in the crease and starts jamming away at the goalie- the correct response is to knock her on her ass.

The ref made a bad call, and then looked to even it up. This is what's happened in hockey for years. It's just fortunate for Canada that Lamoureux was so stupid immediately afterward, instead of the US scoring before giving the ref a chance to back up a warning.

Are you talking about the check to her face?

:shakehead

^Why wasn't she given a penalty earlier in the game

She was given a warning and the ref immediately jumped on her and told her so that was fair warning

what does a penalty earlier in the game mean for the penalty later in the game?

so you are happy with the slashing penalty only if the ref called it a slashing penalty in the 2nd period?

You can't do that in women's hockey...

I picked a US win, thought it would be their turn for change.
Happy for Canadian girls, but watching the US girls tears, I felt sh***y at the same time.
Still think US men are winning tomorrow.

That is an incredible vertical leap!:laugh::laugh:

That's ridiculous. It's not just that it hit the post, but it hits the post dead on. A couple millimeters to the right and that's bouncing off the post and in.

Breathtaking comeback. Maybe the greatest moment in Canadian Olympic hockey history in both men's/women's.

Sorry, but even as an American I have to think winning men's Olympic Gold on home soil against the U.S. in OT with Crosby winning it has to be the top moment, no?

I am truly sorry you feel that way. I'm sure you won't be having any further discussion or feeling even a tinge of joy of Canada winning the gold medal in women's hockey.... any further discussion or positive remarks on someone expressing these sentiments regarding the winning of this gold medal will only result in the appearance of hypocrisy on the part of those expressing similar sentiments.

Except that I wanted them to win, but you know in a more respectable fashion...not really that hard to comprehend. Although I can also tell you I will not be rejoicing for that win, aside from the circumstances its also their forth straight.

Im happy for them but "best team goes to tournament and wins every year" is hardly something Ill be dancing in the streets over.

You can't do that in women's hockey...

Please, you can do it in any hockey. You're allowed to defend the crease.

Canada took some obvious penalties, but that call was the first one that shouldn't have been made.

In OT. In a gold medal game.

I'm just glad it was a clear cut penalty that decided the game. That gets called every time in the NHL as well, although it would normally be a penalty shot. Tough way to lose but the US will look back at the last few minutes of the game as when they let it get away.

1. Henderson
2. 1987 Canada Cup
3. 2014 Women's Comeback Miracle
4. 2010 Men's (Winning at home in close game)/2002 Men's (Beating US on US home ice in final)

As a Canadian this was a humiliating way to win a medal, sorry Americans you all got royally screwed. Unspeakably terrible calls in OT, I mean they'd be atrocious whenever they happened but to basically hand Canada the gold was a farce.

Good luck tomorrow, I'm hoping for a hockey game that is allowed the opportunity to play out.

First of all, I'm a huge fan of women's hockey. I got my whole office watching the game off my screen today. Yet I had to come on here to feel better about the win. I was ecstatic when they scored with 3:49 to go. I was jumping up and down at work when they tied it up. I felt nothing when they won. Which sucks. I'm now more convinced that the calls were at least appropriate, but at the time I hated the fact that so many penalties were called in OT and it was won that way. A full strength win would have been so much more satisfying. For me, it should have been one of the the comebacks of women hockey history, but it just feels a little sour to me for some reason.

This is why we Canadians get made fun of by the rest of the world for being too nice. It's pathetic that you guys feel the need to come on here and apologize for winning.

WE ****ING WON THE GOLD MEDAL! Stop raining on everyone's parade and be happy about it for ****s sakes.
