At least no chris in the upcoming season. Could drastically use new writers and new actors :D

Fun twist, all the lead cast ends up getting overwhelmed and bitten in the premiere. The rest of the season is just the cameras following them wandering around as zombies, doing zombie stuff.

I admit it, I think I would be equally invested in the characters.

The biggest problem is this show has done nothing different than the original. The first few seasons of Walking Dead were great, but we really don't need to see it again. And given FTWD is making a lot of the same mistakes as current TWD (moving the plot forward with stupid and unrealistic decisions by characters), it's hard to like it. Strand is the only consistently great character. Alicia is ok. Nick is hit and miss. Travis has his moments but that goes both ways. Madison is quite possibly the worst character the franchise has had.

I can't understand why they didn't go a different route. It should have looked at the military and governments response to the apocalypse. At the very least, abandoning the boat so fast was awful. Strand abandoning the oraganized crime persona for a mourning lover was not a great decision either.

I'll watch at least part of this season. It takes me a lot to abandon a show but I quit Suits which I was far more invested in so I can quit this.

Hmm, may be worth watching then. One less annoying character gone. Wanted him to die in season 1

FTWD finale was way better than TWD finale last season.

They killed off a character most people hate, and the scene with Travis beating the **** out of Chris' "buddies" was epic.

We'll see how it goes, but if they can build off a very good finale, there is hope. They also have a new showrunner after this season, so I expect changes for sure.

I was a pretty big fan of this show after season 1. The first 5 episodes of season 2 were some of the worst television I've ever watched and I had no interest after that though.

Even though I was happy to see Chris die, I was really disappointed in the way they killed him off. They had been building him up as a psycho for most of the season and then he winds up dying in a flashback after getting in a car crash. I mean, it was great to see Travis lose his ****, but it made Chris' arc feel kinda pointless.

Even in that "epic" scene, one that was supposed to be a defining moment for the character, Travis' actor made that scene come off as melodramatic and cringeworthy for the most part, in my opinion. The problem is these characters have done so many stupid things and seem to make decisions that contradict their own words and actions not even 20 minutes of episode time prior and it's hard to take anything they do or say seriously.

As for Chris' death, it was handled in a pretty poor fashion with the flashback narrative and the manner in which he met his end as it was already pointed out. The show can't recover from its missteps as it's missed the opportunity to present the outbreak from a unique and different perspective and instead decided to go down the route of being an even more poorly written, badly directed version of the Walking Dead with horrible actors that wouldn't cut it in low budget direct-to-television films.

Why this show never made the decision to show the outbreak from the perspective of the Government or the Military, I'll never know. They could've, at the very least, spent more than a brief moment on the downfall of civilization and the slow erosion of societal norms even if they wanted to make the show a post apocalyptic soap opera. They literally had an endless amount of options that could've introduced interesting character and interpersonal dynamics to the series while expanding the lore of the universe but they instead chose to opt for the cheap way out.

Maybe he isn't dead...?

I thought Cliff Curtis did a hell of a job in that scene. He knows they killed his son and just loses his **** on them.

I found it to be pretty realistic and I suspect the writers have been hinting that he has something in his past where he was really violent, and had been trying to change his ways and exercise better self-control for the sake of his son.

Now if Chris is gone, we could see an unhinged Travis and I like that possibility...

Officially renewed for a 4th season.

from tvbythenumbers.zap2itcom:

AMC wants you to stay scared for at least a little longer, with “Fear the Walking Dead†officially renewed for a fourth season by the network.

However, the series will be coming back slightly different than before, with AMC bringing on new showrunners for “The Walking Dead†spin-off series. Original co-creator Dave Erickson is departing the series, with “Once Upon a Time†veterans, Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg, coming on board in his place now. Current “Walking Dead†showrunner, Scott Gimple, will also notably be coming onboard the prequel series as an executive producer.

This news, of course, comes just a couple months ahead of the upcoming third season of “Fear the Walking Dead.†It’s not much of a surprise either, considering the series has been a consistently solid ratings performer for AMC. Hype surrounding the return of “Fear†is high as well, coming off of the show’s strong second season, which boasted 5.3 million average viewers per episode in live+3 ratings, 3 million of which came from the desired 18-49 demographic.

“We’re very excited to continue the journey of ‘Fear The Walking Dead,’ and truly look forward to working with the talented team of Andrew Chambliss, Ian Goldberg, and Scott Gimple,†AMC programming president Joel Stillerman said in a statement.

“We are thrilled to be joining Fear The Walking Dead and couldn’t be more excited to work alongside the wonderful team at AMC on this show,†added Chambliss and Goldberg. “We love this universe and are truly honored to have the chance to contribute to it.â€

Season 3 of “Fear the Walking ead†will premiere on AMC on Sunday, June 4 at 9/8c.

New showrunners is interesting.

I'm thinking they got hit hard with criticizism, and decided to make the change.

Interesting that Gimple is working on it too.

I'm going to guess their numbers fell off the map after the first few episodes of season 2. It's just a really bad show. Literally no redeeming qualities for me outside of the fact that at least the beyond boring characters get killed off fairly often.

We'll see if they can go Breaking Bad type timeline.

BB wasn't that good at all in season 1 or 2. However season 3 was amazing.

The fact that they recognized that it wasn't working, and made changes is encouraging. Now will that translate to the screen?

I'll give it a chance.

S2A was awful. The boat should have been 1 episode tops, not half a season.

S2B was much better, culminating with Travis falling apart and beating the guy to death, which was a very poweful, raw, emotional scene. It was a strong ending.
