It's about The pride, not a color of a medal. It's hard to think that Finns would really stop playing if there are still games left.

Maybe that "humbleness" has some aspects we really should get rid of (at least what comes to hockey), but not in way that the national team degenerates back to juniors and behave like such if they've lost the grip to the Gold, and change to win it.

Finland as a country would not be on the World Map with that kind attitude.

I agree with you, it is about the pride. But when it comes to Canada and their gold or bust attitude, it reminds me of Sweden and sometimes Finland when it comes to Floorball. The Swedes invented the sport, just like Canada invented hockey. Sweden has the largest and deepest talent crop, so of course every single tournament they participate in, they expect gold.

I fully understand this mentality. However, as someone mentioned earlier, it used to seem that the Finns were overwhelmed with joy by making it to the gold medal game, and was missing something mentally, when it came to actually winning those gold medal games. I think that is something that Finland needs to overcome. And whenever the next WHC gold comes are way, it will serve as a big boost. Also, I truly feel that sooner than later, Finland will win a best on best tournament. I see Finland becoming a late 90's early 2000's type CZE-country. A country that will start winning a lot of gold medals, while being a much smaller nation that is expected to medal.

Finland won't give a rat's ass about the bronze and will lose to USA.

Of course we care about the bronze. Not caring about it is just something what poor losers say after they get beaten. Love it how fans still underestimate us. Hope the players think the same. We are the best country in icehockey and the only reason we don't dominate this sport is because we are that small country.

Wonder if the russians already made job offers to the refs. You guys remember the finals in Minsk. Did you know that one of those clowns (Keith Kaval) got the job offer from KHL. He wasn't that good - not even close. Except for the russians. I do call that bribing even if somebody says it's not related.

In my opinion it's a little disrespectful towards the leaf shirts to say that they were no match against team Finland. Even they lost, they made it very clear to everyone that their skill level is far beyond Finland's. There's no doubt that they'd win a best-of-seven series 99 times out of 100.
Does your avatar include a penis?

Anyway. Before the games I declared Finland will lose only one match, the final against Canada 5 to 2.
But they've played better than I expected, so I say 3-2 to Canada.

Well said by a toothless canuck :) :sarcasm:

Would love for the Finns to have another crack at the golden Canadian boys.

so uhm yeah.. what to say.... since I saw before the tournament Finlands roster I knew team Finland isn't in to the tournament for a medal (for our friends outside Finland medal has allways well at least for a 20 yrs. been the goal) now my first thought was anything less than gold would be underwhelming. what strange times we live in Finnish hockey feels weird. bring it on! :yo::handclap:

Like, I said. These guys came to win gold.

That's crap. Finland is here to win every game at hand. Whether it's preliminary game, bronze game of final I expect us to compete and try our best. Gold or bust is ******** mentality since you are competing with the any given opponent and want to win always. If you bellyflop just because you are playing "only" for bronze you just better to sit on the bench then for the whole game.

Game is 50-50. Canada did lose previous game against us because of Talbot (he has been better now) but on the other hand Canada didn't score any goals so the chips are even in my books.

The point of the story is that these guys didn't go to Russia for anything else but Gold.

Let's see what happens tomorrow. Either way, in case Finland loses, Silver is better than Bronze :)

Yeah, I believe the win it all mentality is here to stay (not the gold-or-bust mentality which others can hog since it's not the way teamsport should be played).

It's damn good thing for hockey that authors say what is important in current situation: http://www.tsn.ca/hockey-canada/video/discipline-will-be-key-for-canada-in-the-final~875394

:)

Everything relevant about Finnish hockey system is there. Hopefully also in the Game itself.

Now it's truly about gold or bust, tho.
