It's about The pride, not a color of a medal. It's hard to think that Finns would really stop playing if there are still games left.
Maybe that "humbleness" has some aspects we really should get rid of (at least what comes to hockey), but not in way that the national team degenerates back to juniors and behave like such if they've lost the grip to the Gold, and change to win it.
Finland as a country would not be on the World Map with that kind attitude.
I agree with you, it is about the pride. But when it comes to Canada and their gold or bust attitude, it reminds me of Sweden and sometimes Finland when it comes to Floorball. The Swedes invented the sport, just like Canada invented hockey. Sweden has the largest and deepest talent crop, so of course every single tournament they participate in, they expect gold.
I fully understand this mentality. However, as someone mentioned earlier, it used to seem that the Finns were overwhelmed with joy by making it to the gold medal game, and was missing something mentally, when it came to actually winning those gold medal games. I think that is something that Finland needs to overcome. And whenever the next WHC gold comes are way, it will serve as a big boost. Also, I truly feel that sooner than later, Finland will win a best on best tournament. I see Finland becoming a late 90's early 2000's type CZE-country. A country that will start winning a lot of gold medals, while being a much smaller nation that is expected to medal.
