How has no one said Prucha yet!?

Rangers: Hank, Leetch, Stepan HM to Zucc, Jagr, and McD

Non-rangers: Sakic, Datsyuk, and Rod Brind'amour

I started watching NHL regularly in the mid 90's (well.. regularly is pushing it.. they only showed 2 matches every week. But it was that or nothing).

While they did show a variety of teams, they had a special "love" for the Red Wings and the Avs, which were featured more than all the others combined (it felt like that at least, hehe).

So my choices are going to be heavily influenced by that. I liked the Avs the better of the two, hence it would unsurprisingly be :

Forsberg
Sakic
Roy
(Bourque)

Leetch
Graves
Mio

Rarely mentioned on Ranger boards but I'm glad you did. For some reason I just really liked the guy.

For me it's easy.
"Eddie", Eddie, Eddie (Giacomin of course)
Jean Ratelle (Mr. Lady Byng)

This is why I quoted the Eddie Mio response.

My 3rd is Gene Carr. He was different. Speed to burn. I took notice as an 11 yr old. (Or, however old I was)

Answer? The same way no one mentioned Eddie Giacomin. I read all of the replies. If I missed it, I am sorry. Can't believe I was the first to say "Steady Eddie".

Bill Chadwick hated Gene Carr. I don't know how many times after Carr missed an opportunity I heard Chadwick say. 'Gene Carr couldn't shoot the puck in the ocean if he was standing on the end of a pier'--or pretty much words to that effect. I think part of that might have been Chadwick's old fogie fussiness at Carr pushing at the limits of the Rangers dress code at that time.

We have had three "Eddie Eddie Eddies" Giac, Johnstone, and Mio.

Gene Carr is a guy I never saw play but I have heard from other Ranger fans that really liked him a lot.

Chadwick was known as "The Big Whistle".

I always got a kick out of Jim Gordon, Chadwick's broadcast partner, when he said "And the whistle blows".

I called in to the old Big Whistle TV show on Viacom cable around 60 minutes before on of my own games. That TV show had a budget of at least $10. When I walked in to the locker room everyone repeated my question (regarding Barry Beck and Denis Potvin) and started laughing. I guess they recognized my voice. :D

You weren't first or only, I called out Eddie Friday am
But no matter, he set standard for all the goalies who followed

Steve Vickers, reijo ruotsaleinen, john vanbiesbrouck
Guy lafleur, Bobby orr, Messier
Other fave NYR Beck, Poddubny, Turcotte, Dubi,, Kovalev, Sauer, Gresch, Zubov, Sandstrom, Erixon, Giacomin, Esposito
Other opponents Bure, Lemaire, Linden, Datsyuk, Sakic, Chelios, Shanahan, Kariya

Thanks to you guys who mentioned captain Dave, Prucha, Pavelich and many more

Gene Carr - we wanted to love him but he just wasn't that good
In street hockey we'd shoot wide on breakaways or empty nets and say we were Gene Carr
Another kid from then I had high hopes for was Larry Sacharuk

Has anyone mentioned Hickey or Middleton?

Mike Rogers had 4 good seasons leading NYR offense

That's on all of you old folk for not mentioning him ;)

Mark Messier, Brendan Shanahan and Adam Graves.

Honorable mentions go to Ryan Smyth, Ryan Getzlaf, Brian Leetch, Tony Amonte and Kris King.

Don Murdoch had the talent to be one of my favorite players.

I will never forget being a little kid going to a exhibition (not a preseason) game between the Rangers and the Isles. It wasn't at MSG. I do not think it was at Nassau Coliseum either. Before the game Murdoch was snapping the puck straight up and hitting the roof of the building. He was my favorite at that time. It is a shame what happened to his career. Even when he was in the Redwings minors I followed his career. I remember my dad writing down on a piece of paper to watch #77, #7, and #14

ooh... Good question.

Non-Rangers: Roy, Yzerman, Hejduk

Were Rangers but not very long/not very effective: Bure, Robitaille, Russ Courtnall

Rangers: Theo, Prucha, Lundqvist, Kaspar, Ulf, Beuke,

With some of the players whose names have been mentioned so far, If this thread continues much longer eventually someone will nominate Arnie Brown and Ron Stewart.

Leetch, Forsberg, Bure

I had real trouble not including Forsberg. To me, he was exactly my kind of forward, still is. In keeping with top 3 only, I went with what I did but it's great reading the thoughts of other posters, especially with their Rangers picks.
BTW, I remember Gene Carr, but I have to say I was underwhelmed. Loved GAG line, Brad Park, Don Murdoch, Steve Vickers, Pierre Larouche, Ron Duguay, Ron Greschner, Walt Tkaczuk...argh...where to stop? could go on forever :)

Rangers: Murdoch, Nicky Fotiu, EJ, Jagr, Duguay, Greschner, Jan Erixon, Reijo Ruotsalainen, Mik.o (damn autocorrect) Leinenin (sp?)...that's all I can think of at the moment.

Non-Rangers: Yvan Cournoyer, Bobby Clarke (yes, I said Bobby Clarke ha ha), Ray Bourque, Steve Kasper, Denis Savard.

I loved Bobby Clarke because the way he played against us (dirty) is how he played vs EVERY TEAM he played against. He only had one gear; All out. I admired and respected that.
