One thing I've noticed anecdotally among former Expos fans in BC is they to like the M's more than the Jays. I guess the Expos gave them their "Canada's team" fix, so for their AL team they just chose the closest one. Not to speak for whatever your story is though.
Yeah, that’s pretty accurate.
Also, back in the day French CBC showed a lot of Expos games, so you’d see them play more than the Jays. KOMO did the same for the Mariners.

Seattle gave us Starbucks and for that the Mariners must remain forever cursed.

Been about a week since I went down to see a couple games, here's my thoughts.

I've been going for a few years now, I think just right after the 2015/16 season. I remember the first ones were just absolutely packed. Tickets were around $50 CDN.

Now, the tickets came to around $90 CDN. A can of beer was $16.95 US. The Jays have been the model of mediocrity the last few years. The stadium was noticeably less filled with Jays or Mariners fans. Given the cost of living increases, I understand why. Also, for the first time, I was sat next to some knuckle-draggers that peaked in high school. Their anti-Semitic remarks made me move to another part of the stadium.

It's probably the last one I will go to unless the Jays are actually good. I'll still go my yearly road trip but I would rather spend my money somewhere else.

After going the last 2 seasons, I did notice there was less buzz this season than 2023. Jays will probably be selling at the deadline. M's desperately need to add a bat, but their cheap ownership will probably do nothing.

As a Raptors fan I’m really curious if any other Raptors fans here would become Sonics fans if they return to Seattle.

I guess the easy answer could be that you become a fan of both teams since they’re in opposite conferences unlike the Jays and Mariners.

The Raptors have really embraced the “Canada’s team” role well.

Nah, I celebrate the burning of York every year.:sarcasm:

Talking to a few Mariners fans, I was shocked they were leading their division. And yeah, they also told me they need a bat or two to actually make a run.

Just checked the 2025 schedule which dropped today. Jays come to Seattle in early May, so there might not be as much fans as usual with the series usually played in June-August. Especially families with the kids still in school.

Justin Turner ended up being one of those bats in the M's/Jays trade at the deadline. He was a secondary pickup. while Arozarena was the main one in the trade with the Rays.

What you're about to see over the next few years (and this year) will shed some light on what mediocre truly looks like. Core is about to take a shift and there will be some growing pains over the next few seasons.

Playoff teams with 90 win seasons aren't mediocre, no matter how disappointing the post-season. The Jays were good in 2022 & 2023.

It always surprises me a little about how little geography means in terms of fan loyalty. So it doesn't really shock me that the Jays are far more popular in B.C. than the Mariners, who are only 120 km down the I-5.

But it's really the same with the Seattle Kraken. They were supposed to be a bitter rival of the Canucks, like 'the Battle of Alberta'. But just has never materialized. To me, the the Kraken are just another Pacific Division team with an interesting uniform design--but no more of a rival than the Ducks or the Sharks.

The one exception of course are the Seattle Seahawks. For NFL-starved fans on the Lower Mainland, they're only team in town. In fact there's a considerable chunk of their season-ticket and fan-base actually comes down from B.C. for games.

I absolutely f***ing hate the Seahawks.

Expos.

Then maybe the Mariners but I'm hardly a big fan of MLB anymore.

Strongly resent any suggestion that the Blue Jays are "Canada's baseball team." That franchise could wither and die for all I care. It's highly unfortunate that SN's summer-time programming is 95% BJ's games, BJ's highlight packages, or talk shows about the BJs

I was an expos fan as well, and my baseball interest really went to zero after they left.

I think the mariner following really took a hit in the last 20 years or so. They used to be on local TV regularly, which you don't see anymore. The days of Griffey, arod and Edgar Martinez were prime mariner days in the vancouver market.

I mean who even has cable TV anymore? No one under 30.

Prime Mariner days? I would say the Ichiro era made more fans from Vancouver. Not to mention Felix Hernandez.

Just on curiosity I checked the standings today and the Mariners are 6 games back and pretty much out of it again. Really crazy how much talent they've wasted over the years.

Do Jays fan actually believe they were anywhere close to landing Sasaki? It's clearly obvious they never had a chance, and he was using them to get more from LA. Dodgers are getting everybody. Same thing happened with Ohtani.

The Jays should only go with home grown talent. They are never going to land a big-name in free agency.

As a Dodgers fan, was brutal reading the media handouts for the Jays. Shohei last year was torture enough, but to have every FA linked to them and they literally struck out clean… how is Atkins even still employed at this point? Get rid of him and have the next guy hand Vlad a blank cheque with term, then focus on the farm. If the Jays were strong contenders for the AL East I don't think they'd have as much trouble as they did this year signing at least one FA.

I firmly believe it's all Sportsnet and TSN writing fluff articles to get more clicks. The Jay always getting the scraps leftover.

Atkins and the other guy are morons and the Jays screwed themselves over by letting AA go.

I don't mind cheering for the Jays when they're winning. Right now it's a clown show with Shapiro and Atkins, and that is almost as entertaining.

On the other hand if the Expos came back, I'd drop the Jays in a heartbeat.

I'm a big Jays fan but I'm also very comfortable taking seasons off at a time.
