I hate cheering for a Toronto team and my head would prefer to be a Mariners fan and they're my #2 team. But you can't help the team you cheer for and it's impossible for me to change.
Related to this, is it common for people in BC to cheer for both teams? Or to have them as their top 2 baseball teams? Seattle and Toronto obviously aren't natural rivals, though a rivalry has emerged since last season.

Baseball and football have too many pauses for my liking. That's why I prefer watching hockey, basketball and soccer (real football).

Growing up in extremely rural northern BC, we only got one TV channel over the air up in the mountains when I was a kid, and that was TBS -- Ted Turner's (accidentally inter)national strategy for building the 90s Braves a national fanbase. It worked -- die-hard Braves fan to this day.
I too liked the Braves in the 90s because of TBS.

It always amazes how well the Blue Jays and their fans travel. It's one thing for Jays fans to follow the team to Seattle, Oakland or L.A. on West Coast or Detroit, Boston, New York or Cleveland in the East.

But there were a ton of Jays fans in the stands for the games with Colorado Rockies in Denver. I mean Denver isn't t the easiest place to get to from anywhere, must less Canada.

But some Jays fans drove 2,000 miles from the Prairies to get to the games at Coors Field. And also a sprinkling from B.C. and Manitoba. Impressive.
Probably alot of expats because ovintiv(formerly Encana)a natural gas company moved from Calgary to Denver I'm guessing a few people probably moved with them.

We don’t have a team so I pull for the closest one. Can’t cheer for anything Toronto.

The great thing about being a casual Blue Jays fan is that it’s extremely easy to hop on and off the bandwagon and, when you’re off, you can sneer at Toronto with the usual West Coast resentment complex.

Edit: just to clarify, I’m an extremely casual Jays fan and definitely off the bandwagon. To be be honest, I don’t particularly like this version of the team even when they manage to win.

mariners lose again

going down for the game today. never seen kershaw before so that’s kind of cool. hope he gives up 8 in the first 4

Both teams are in a slump right now and will look to turn things around this weekend. With the M's struggles at the plate and Jays struggles on the mound, the bottom of innings will be the ultimate stoppable force vs movable object matchup.

For BC M's fans. how often do you guys (and BC M's fans in general) come down for games? Obviously we can't tell when you guys are here since you blend in with everyone else. I assume most of you avoid the Jays series just on traffic alone.

The Blue Jays this year, have been ass water with toilet paper hanging from the bowl.
Just terrible, pitching inconsistent, hitting has been stank, managerial issues just bad.

I was at last night's game and did notice how the buzz was lower than the last couple years. Likely due to the Jays being in last place as oppose to the tight WC races between the teams the last 2 seasons.
I have just made the switch. Following the M's now as my primary MLB team.
What made you make the switch?

The Jays are and have been one of the most unlikeable teams in their current iteration. I loved them from 85-93, and have followed their ups and downs for a lot of years. I have watched the Ms too, but as a secondary team.

Now I just feel like any investment I want to give to baseball - and it's not a lot at this stage, it's my 5th favourite pro sport - should go to a more local team. And it's not like I am switching to a perennial winner or something - I would find that really distasteful. The Ms have a history I know, have been a struggling franchise, are the closest team to me by far, and are playing pretty well these days.

The Jays will be a secondary team for me from here on.

Makes sense. Plus I'd imagine it's easier having 81 games as an option to go to in Seattle each season as oppose to 3-4.

Went to the games on Friday and Sunday. Fun atmosphere overall, though definitely an embarrassing showing by the M's bats (nothing new this season) against a Jays team who appears to be selling at the deadline.

You guys got any local if you know you know type cannabis companies in Seattle/area? I'm talking like way cheaper than Kemp's Cannabis or Dockside Cannabis. Or maybe you don't partake.

I always had a soft spot for the Expos and my enjoyment of baseball dipped after they got screwed in 1994.

But of the two options, I always liked the Mariners more. At least, you could go and see one of their games somewhat easily. And as a Canucks fan, they have a similarly aggravating history.

One thing I've noticed anecdotally among former Expos fans in BC is they to like the M's more than the Jays. I guess the Expos gave them their "Canada's team" fix, so for their AL team they just chose the closest one. Not to speak for whatever your story is though.
