Fantasy Pool Magazines 2013

I got the Sportsnet Pool guide today at Costco (North York) - $6.97... discounted $3 from regular price. I usually can find the hockey news one there too for a good discount... but didn't see it today. I haven't read through carefully, but they breakdown by position (LW/RW/C/D) like last year. No team-by-team analysis, but they do a quick team depth chart, but don't predict PP units. Write up on each player is very short (unlike McKeen).

I also was at a Costco today, walked by the magazines and saw THN for a discounted price of 5$... Had to grab it for that price. Skimmed through it pretty quickly, looked interesting.

Has anyone looked at the Fantasy Hockey Standard yet? Thoughts on 2013-2014 projections, breakout players, etc

Per their web site it looks like the guide is only available by PDF download.

Projections etc. are good imo. It's like any mag though, I agree with a lot, I disagree with a lot.

It's more the write-ups and the articles that make it good. Lots of cool stats in the writeups, good perspectives. Lots of really interesting strategy stuff in the articles. It's unique.

It is a PDF though, there's no hardcopy. That's the downside. It's better to hold it in your hand, I know what you guys mean. If you're thinking of getting a second mag though, I highly recommend it.

I buy them all and use a spreadsheet to average them out. Hey, nothing else to do in August.

Isn't there a website that does this? I seem to recall seeing something in the past that list and then averages all the magazines projections. Anyone know what I am talking about?

McKeen's going Online?

Was talking with a couple of people from my pool. Is McKeen's doing a mag this your just online?

Yes, seems that McKeens Yearbook will only be available online.

"With our editorial focus now shifting fully to online, the print edition of McKeen’s Hockey Pool Yearbook will be discontinued for 2013-14. We are confident that the McKeen’s real time online content will be incomparable to any other hockey resource available on the market!"

Yeah, it's true. No printed guide for McKeens this year.

Also looks like it's a subscription service, and all the info is just online. Not really clear if there's a PDF guide, but seems like maybe no.

That's daft. I prefer printed magazines no matter what sales pitch Dobber et al. throw out about online mags. I probably wont bother with McKeens.

Looks like the forecaster is the only decent one left to buy...and I can't find it anywhere. Anyone in NS find it yet? I briefly read through THN and Sportsnet and they look awful again.

BTW as arrogant as Dobber is he does provide a spreadsheet that you can edit and other predictions to.

Shame about McKeen's. I won't be bothering with an online magazine either.

Same for me... I can't imagine myself doing a pool in a restaurant with my mobile apps.. How can i delete a player's name on my phone when drafted ? I don't want to bother with printing spreadsheet, i already have too many papers to bring in restaurant.

What a shame !! This was the best draft mag on the market, it was like christmas when it gets out... No way i will pay for online edition. I will find other printed draft guide instead. Sorry Mckeens ! I think this is a bad decision and will result in bad financial result...:(

Just a warning for all of you. I was in a store today and picked up a small guide in French, "Guide de Poche des Poolers". It has Gallagher and Galchenyuk on the cover...if you have purchased "Pooler Guide", do not purchase this one, the projections are the same, its just a french pocket sized version. Kiss $4.99 good bye.

Anybody find a good compilation sheet of a few diff mags together yet? Used to be a french one online somewhere called the List de Lists or somesuch, any thoughts?>

Would that even be legal? Taking someone else's list, which they sell for profit and then selling it yourself? Even if you don't sell it, would it still not violate copyright?

If they are selling the guide with each magazines list then I am pretty sure it is illegal. However, if you were to just take the averages of x amount of magazines and then seel that list without each mags details then you would probably be alright.

****, I have gotten Mckeens exclusively for quite a few years now and I was waiting until now too get their magazine only too find out it's not in print. What a joke. Looks like I will be picking up something different tonight.

Has anyone bought the online McKeens package? I'm considering it, but I already have two online guides (Fantasy Hockey Standard, Dobber). Is there a reason to buy a third?

I like collecting the McKeens yearly. Are there any alternatives that have the same type of scouting report?

Have only gotten Forecaster this year, I dont like online mags.
