Fantasy Pool Magazines 2013

Alright so I guess I'm not getting Fantasy Hockey Standard, theres just something about it being on paper physically in front of you lol.

So does anyone know then if the Forecaster has been released in magazines in Ontario? And where I could find one?

Look what just showed up!

It's funny how The Forecaster has different cover. I ordered mine and it's pictures of Habs players on the cover

Which is the most in-depth on prospects and keeper leagues? Dobber?

Not Dobber. Besides his long term outlooks being so ridiculous (everyone has a potenital to be a 90 pter...ya right), it doesn't comment on every player.

McKeens is the best for dynasty leagues.

McKeens probably has the most knowledgeable writers, but it's a tough read. The scouting reports are useful but dry. I read hockey pool mags as much for entertainment as anything, I guess that's why I like some of the other ones better.

Agree that Dobber is overrated, although he does have some good content. Also like that his guide gets updated, the print magazines miss a ton of moves that happen after their deadlines.

Just picked up The Hockey News pool guide. While the content is clearly lacking in quantity, the articles they did write are actually quite interesting.

This might not belong here (sorry, I'm new here), but does anyone know when Yahoo! fantasy hockey starts?

Registration will probably open within a week. Mock drafts probably a week or slightly longer.

I got the Sportsnet Pool guide today at Costco (North York) - $6.97... discounted $3 from regular price. I usually can find the hockey news one there too for a good discount... but didn't see it today. I haven't read through carefully, but they breakdown by position (LW/RW/C/D) like last year. No team-by-team analysis, but they do a quick team depth chart, but don't predict PP units. Write up on each player is very short (unlike McKeen).

To add onto everyone else, I bought Dobber this year as I'm a part of a huge keeper league (30 teams) so I think prospects will play an important part and the 3yr outlook would be useful. To be completely truthful, I didn't enjoy the fact it was online and I had to read it online. Something about a magazine, will go back to magazines for next year. On the side of information, found it fairly good. VERY in depth, good write ups on players, but I agree... Way too much goals and assists given up. For example in the prospect report, a bad prospect labelled "don't draft" had a 60% chance of getting to the NHL, and is guaranteed 25 goals. Like it's just unrealistic.
