I appreciate the responses.

While I do really like the idea of Lucroy, our league has 4 OF slots. OFs are generally difficult to come by via trade or waivers so that's why I like Jones. That said, I think Lucroy may be a better value given that he finished #1 on the ESPN player rater at catcher.

I finished second in my league this past season losing in the Finals 3-7. I feel like my team just needs a good redraft next season to take the next step so I want to capitalize on keepers to insure that.

I have a lot of time to decide but just thought I'd float the question out here so I appreciate your feedback.

Probably also worth noting, just for a little background, I made a major trade midseason that at the time I thought was trading future assets for present.

I traded: Jake Lamb, Johnathan Villar, and Michael Fulmer
I got: David Price and Jonathan Lucroy

At the time most in the league thought I won huge. This trade occurred in mid-June but even with Lamb's terrible 2nd half, Villar and Fulmer wound up strong the rest of the way while Price stayed pretty average, though Lucroy dominated. Overall I'd say it was an even trade.

Keep Price for sure. After that, it gets tricky. I don't like keeping relievers in a limited keeper, either. I'm curious to see where Turner signs.
I've never been in a keeper league with such few keeps, we keep 18. But man I would kill to have a great reliever fall into my laps. I don't want to trade for one ever since they're so volatile really. Jeanmar Gomez was awesome for me until the wheels fell off in the finals/semis time. Hopefully I get lucky again next year. Getting 11-16 pts from a dude pitching 1 inning is way too easy.

I am in a keep six league, and my strategy (which backfired this year... thanks, Bryce and Cutch...) is to keep as many hitters as possible since they are more consistent. I hate keeping relievers since they pitch such few innings.

My six keepers for that league are Bryant, Bogaerts, Harper, Encarnacion, Stanton and Carlos Gonzalez. I'm going to throw McCutchen back if I can't make a 2-for-1 (or 3-for-2 or so on...). That's nuts. And I came in 10th out of 12!

And my pitching wasn't crap, either. I had Arrieta (traded along with Miggy for Bryant), Hamels (traded for CarGo) and Happ.

Wow that's quite a group of players. Not sure how a team like that could finish 10th!

I don't think 6 is out of the ordinary. 18 seems like an odd amount, at that point why not just make it a dynasty league?

As far as relievers go, it's a 12 team league and saves is a category so on average each team should have 2-3 relievers but it never works out that way because one guy in the league always scoops up like 5 or 6. I'm on the fence about Betances. If he put up his usual sub 2 ERA and sub 1 WHIP I'd probably keep him. He provides over 100 K's a season which is absurd for a reliever. But as rangerssharks was saying, keeping relievers in a 12 team league is generally not advised as good hitters are far more impactful and reliable from year to year.

I love keeping all my core players. I don't know what I would do if I could only keep 6 lol.

I've never even done a starting draft before, I inherited my keeper team and it's the only league I've been in. If a league opens up, preferably Yahoo, hit me up.

My league mandates 3-5 keepers out of the draft. You may trade for more. And then we have an end of year reneg where you can keep one player you didn't originally keep, whether you drafted or acquired that player via waivers/trade

So, this is what my auction dynasty team will look like headed into the offseason now that arbitration is basically over. It is a 12 team 5x5 roto league with a $400 cap and 40 man rosters.

C (start 2)- Castillo (3), empty
1B- Pujols (7)
2B- Carpenter (20)
3B- Donaldson (28)
SS- Seager (18)
MI- Machado (28)
OF (start 5)- Trout (59), Harper (40), A. Jones (31), Zobrist (16), Morales (5)
Util- Correa (18)
SP (start 5)- Kershaw (47), Bumgarner (30), Kennedy (10), Guerra (6), Happ (4)
RP (start 5)- F. Rodriguez (6), empty, empty, empty, empty
BN- Richards (9), Glasnow (7), Hellickson (5), E. Santana (4), Barreto (2), C. Frazier (2), K. Tucker (2), Aiken (2)

Probably cutting (no cap penalties in the offseason)- Bautista (42), Span (11), Kepler (5), Aoki (3), Kazmir (16), Iwakuma (12), Volquez (10), Stephenson (3), K. Zimmer (3), Shipley (3), Jeffress (10), Za. Wheeler (10), Gregerson (5), Neshek (3)

I'm probably going to have to shed about $80 in cap, so I have some very difficult decisions ahead of me. I have until the end of January to decide, so I still have a lot of time. Early thoughts? Here are mine:

The categories I was below average in were steals (obviously), saves (obviously) and average. I need to trade for some closers (which I hate doing) and steals. Despite all of the big names on my team, I only came in 5th (I had no chance of winning this year because the winner had 113 out of a possible 120 points). I know where I went wrong, but I don't know who to trade. I have so many elite bats below market value (at least in my opinion), so I don't know who to give up. It isn't like they are old, either.

Thanks in advance.

^Any help?

Also, I'm torn on whether I should give a compensation draft pick to the Jose Fernandez (RIP) owner in my dynasty league. I didn't do it for Oscar Taveras, but he was basically a prospect at that time, while Fernandez was an elite dynasty asset and already a great pitcher.

I agree with the cuts you suggested, I like the poster above might also include Adam Jones too or shop him. I would also look to shop a guy like Zobrist or Carpenter and see if I could find some steals at 2nd base. You can afford to go after a pure speed guy too like a Dee Gordon or Billy Hamilton if you wanted. Float some offers out for a speed guy and see what bites. Saves wise, just follow closer situations closely and you can usually find multiple guys throughout the year. I recommend using the Rotoworld forums closer thread as they talk often about good speculative adds.

Just swung a big trade in my NL-Only Dynasty league (40 man roster, $300 budget): I got Arenado ($25) for Chapman ($20), JP Crawford ($3) and Jose De Leon ($3).

I was getting twitchy with the Dodgers seemingly linked to most every AL team and the Yankees looking to bring back Chapman.

I don't get why anyone would trade for Chapman now in an NL only league.

Trying to re-stock my farm system by acquiring picks in my dynasty league. The previous owner traded many of them away. I took this team over last weekend and have already made four deals. But, our 8 round MiLB draft is coming up and I am without a 1st or 2nd rounder. There are some very good prospects still available.

Anyway, I'll cut to the chase. How do you guys value Giancarlo Stanton? I'm lukewarm on him. If I could trade him for a young gun like Stephen Piscotty plus two early round picks, would you guys make a deal like that?

Maybe I am super undervaluing Stanton. I probably am. But if I could use that 1st round pick I could acquire to draft a guy like Cody Bellinger, Nick Senzel or Triston McKenzie, it's super tempting to me...

No way I'd do that deal.

You can do better than that for Stanton.

I wouldn't make that trade. You'd be selling low on Stanton.

If Jorge Soler indeed lands in Kansas City in the Wade Davis deal, the best case I can make for Soler in fantasy is the substantially larger role (which, obviously, does matter a good bit). But it's a significant park downgrade for power, so there's a good chance the result is he'll be overvalued. It'd be tough for me to take him over even, say, Yasmany Tomas, my OF56.

You're definitely undervaluing Giancarlo. Shoot for a higher return or just keep him.

I've sent out a few offers on Jones, and nobody wants him. I guess I'm going to end up cutting him.
