I'd think the ratio here is fairly similar, we have a handful of posters here who just quote each other and pat each other on the back for saying "Leafs lost" to any conversation about the Leafs and just derail threads, everyone else seems pretty willing to discuss the areas of issues, and realize not everything is bad or needs changing.

Anecdotally speaking, most of my friends and relatives that are Leaf fans feel the same way as the majority of respondents to The Athletic poll, myself included.

How about start winning or get sacked.
That seems reasonable no?
Shanahan has been here for 8 years and hasn’t won a playoff round. Not the Cup, just a round.
Life is give and take. If you want me to believe in a process, you need to show some success. The narrative would be different if we lost in the 1st, went to the 2nd or 3rd, lost in the 1st, etc.

Even Edmonton went to the 3rd with Mike Smith, Codi Ceci and Tyson Barrie. ???????

Would Edmonton have made the playoffs in the East?

There is no way the majority of the fanbase is pleasantly understanding of a loss to Tampa
I'm sure the vast majority are understanding. You have one team that set franchise records and finished 4th in the league, lose to the 2 time defending Stanley cup champions, who are in the finals for a 3rd time.
Quite clearly those are 2 great teams facing off. Unfortunately it just happened to be in the 1st round.

How could anyone answer the question about winning a playoff round?

No one knows the roster

Part of the definition of "education" is self-discovery. The complete opposite of education is propaganda.

The problem is there are too many entrenched on one side or the other. Either every sucks or everything is awesome. That’s ridiculous.

Not everything is bad. There’s more good than bad. Some stuff is bad and does need to changes.

He was overrated, which is why he was overpaid.

I don't think the two are mutually exclusive.

He was a 0.9-1.1 points per game his entire time with the Islanders and that's exactly what he has been for the Leafs so far. If you expected his production to go up at age 28 and become a constant 90+point player then of course you are going to think he's overrated.

He has produced exactly what I expected. 80-85 points the first couple years,, 75-80 the next couple and 70-75 for the last few.

The problem is that the NHL uses AAV with a flat cap.... His %ofCap has stayed the same into the next stage of his career, exiting his prime. And the %ofCap should be declining mirroring the production decline.

So you're telling me most Leafs fans are acting reasonable, and its only a handful of miserable fans posting over and over and over and over about how miserable they are?

Im not at all surprised.
That’s pretty much what we have here. A few over the top on both sides and the rest of us with reasonable views on the middle.

Not sure those poll numbers reflect that though.

It's fans who give excuse after excuse and expected bs, unlucky, Goalied crap over and over that are the " reasonable ones" it seems.

Gotta love HFBoards.

Here's are some poll results

Doomers: Clearly an example of the lamestream media spreading insidious propaganda to Dubas Lovers. My Uncle Jim in Burlington is a far more accurate representation of the fanbase.

For me- it is education. I am not doing to spend my time whining about fireing this person or that person, predicting doom and gloom what ever those crybaby propagandists are doing now. I am just going to enjoy the games. The more the better.

Then you're basically a Pom Pom fan who doesn't care what they do - you'll always cheer

Propagandaists are the worst. Like Goebbells saying everything is fine as Berlin crumbled.

Ok. So practically useless. We are no closer to knowing how Leafs fans feel.
I agree that this poll means nothing but not for the reason you stated. I doubt non Leafs Athletic subscribers are going to go out of their way to troll vote in favour of mediocrity.

I just think it's more likely that Athletic Leafs subscribers are on that Shanaplan copium.

I will enjoy watching every game. I want the Leafs to win a Cup- more games for me to watch and more excitement for me.

You on the other hand, just want to complain and moan about the team regardless of how well the team does. - you will always find something to complain about.

But we don't know though. That's the problem. The results mean nothing, because we have zero idea who is giving these answers. It's like when we saw Leafs fans voting Bergevin should not be fired.
