I've never seen him sulking or whining and I don't think he should care about the opinion of people outside the team in reference to their play.

You've interpreted what he said and how he acted to be negative because you don't like him.

Didn't Marner look to Gilmour as someone to emulate? I always felt like Gilmour cared about the fans and when Marner says he doesn't care about what fans think, it's not a good look. Remember Gilmour's speech before the playoffs in 93? That's when he told the fans that "we're not done, we're going to do something else for you guys" (paraphrasing). "For you guys", meaning for you, the fans, get it? Gilmour cared about the fans, Marner doesn't care and if his image with the fan base isn't great, that could be part of the reason why. Not that I care, I just want him to stop disappearing when the going gets tough, if he turns into a playoff beast the way Gilmour did for us, I don't care if he hates the fans, I just him to help us win.

Being annoyed and whining or sulking are different things.

I don't think he likes dealing with the media in those situations, not sure that is a requirement for anything hockey related though.

My main point is any emotion he shows, most hate it, and now there are comments asking for emotion from our players like McDavid showed.

Mcdavid does that, and follows it up with an all time performance in games 4-6 to almost win the cup. He generally produces at disgusting rates and carries his team further than they should be. Fans will view him "crying" and think the rest of the team needs to help him out, his production earns him the benefit of the doubt, and sometimes he does this WHILST producing

Marner has his own tantrums in the box for the over the glass penalty in a series he's godawful in helping us win at, or he throws his gloves (for whatever reason) in a series where he's dreadful. Fans will view him "crying" and think he needs to stop crying and actually produce. Not gonna speak for everyone, but if marner had 5-6 points in that boston series and then he threw his gloves, I'd cheer him on and say matthews and nylander gotta get their shit together and help him out, instead he had 1? point and ain't nobody siding with that.

People give nylander credit because he scores/helps score when the team needs it, game 7 and 6 boston. game 5 florida, game 3-5 in tampa he (also marner here) setting up or scoring goals, almost every game against montreal. His stats in elimination games further support the notion that he "cares", now whether that's true or not isn't my point. He's no where near mcdavid, or really any of the best players in the playoffs, but compared to the other guys on our team he's easily the most clutch and that sticks with people
