Adam Gaudette had a 5 week hot streak and during that time, the team was at its worst.
Oct 10th to Oct 22nd
Team went 4-2-1, Gaudette was scratched in game 2, played the rest but everyone was wondering how a guy like that could be a useful 4th line player
Oct 25th to Nov 30th
Team record: 6-10-1 50GF 57GA (3.35 GA avg)
Gaudette scored 12 goals (no assists)
Shooting %: 42.9
He had 3 games where he scored 2 goals
6-4 loss to Vegas
8-1 win vs St Louis
4-3 win vs San Jose
The other games where he scored:
2-1 loss to NYR
3-0 win vs Seattle
5-4 OT loss to Philly
3-2 loss to Vegas
4-3 win vs Calgary
5-2 loss to LA
The team basically sucked trying to figure out Green's system during this time. Even when Gaudette was scoring, it barely meant much - they only won 4 of those games, one was a blowout and the other 3 were against non-playoff teams. So when Gaudette contributed, it didn't even have much of an impact.
The first month of the season is always a shitshow where teams are trying to figure out their identity with the off-season changes. It was 2 months for us because of a new coach who took over a team that didn't know what defence was after years of DJ.
Since then, the team has gone 32-18-5. Gaudette scoring stats are 5-6-11. All of those points came against teams that are not making the playoffs (NSH 3, NYI 2, PIT 2, BOS/CBJ/PHI/SEA 1)
He is not a good NHL player. He just survives there; he's not strong enough or fast enough to get into a position to get off the only thing he does well, and that is to release the puck. And even that isn't great, it's just better than average.
Since this is a Zetterlund thread here's his stats between Oct 25th and Nov 30th:
19GP 6-10-16 +14
He got an assist in the game we played against SJ (Nov 27th), 6 shots on goal in 23+ mins of ice time (?!)
